Are you serious?? FIFA Interactive World Cup???

Yeah good point.

Parents need to take responsibility for their kids getting more exercise tho.
At the minute my lad isn't overly bothered about gaming,we have the odd game on FIFA.
But if he ever decides he wants to spend all day on his Xbox it wouldn't even be up for discussion.

Yep!

My little un's love their ipads and i think they certainly have their place as the technology is only ever going to advance and become more integral in daily life. But whilst not treated as rewards, they certainly aren't allowed to be glued to em. In fact i'm probably worse for it!

To be fair, I don't think e-sports are aimed at the typical age range that frequent this forum, so hardly surprising most of you aren't fans.

Also, just because someone watches e-sports or plays an xbox it doesn't mean they don't play actual sports. You can't be outside all day every day all year, least they're doing something that stimulates their brain and allows them to remain sociable outside of school hours.

Calling it "e-sports" doesn't make it a sport

And yes you can be outside all day every day - why not and playing on a computer game isn't a "sociable activity when you are interact with a controller and a console " and stimulating their brain ?! Seriously ?

Even worse is people watching people press buttons on a controller - that's all they are doing , pressing buttons - it's not real , are people really that sad they are watching people playing a computer game

I'm all for having a laugh with mates on the odd game which we all have done over the years but it's just not a sport - sitting down pressing buttons is not a sport and the day it's accepted as such is a sad sad day

How much time do you spend searching for great debates on this & other forums?
How much time do you spend in front of the Tv watching Liverpool?

Get out side and have some blooming good fun in the fresh air 👍🏻

You're talking rubbish. There's no way you can expect children to be outside all day every day, it's just not feasible across winter and when it's dark from 4pm. Also, did you never do anything inside as a kid? Were you outside all day every day throughout the whole year?

Of course it's sociable. A group of friends will be online all together, in a group chat, socialising. For example in FIFA there's a game mode where you can control a full team with a person controlling a player each, that is a sociable game involving teamworking. Not all kids are locked in a dark room on their own playing video games, it's a very sociable activity nowadays.

Also, you're really over-simplifying what it's like to play games by deeming the activity just simply "pressing buttons". I don't think you understand how complex and difficult these games are. To play to a decent standard, like in anything, it requires concentration, practice and skill. You're not just blindly pressing buttons.

What's really the difference between watching Football on TV and watching a game of FIFA?

How is it different to televised poker? What about snooker, or chess? All sports are based upon a game of some kind. Running over a set distance to determine a winner is a game. Sport also means to view something as an entertainment.

So it's highly ironic that we exist here, as a group of grown adults, debating, arguing and trying to win in a battle of opinion by pressing buttons whilst sat on our behinds. Maybe we should be televised too.

I pretty much was yes - if not with my friends then doing either - football or hockey or indoor cricket training pretty much most nights then homework then bed

You are not interact face to face with a human , you're are not gaining social skills from being around other people , you have no idea who it is you are speaking too

And yes it is pressing buttons at the end of the day no matter how many different combinations there are - it's still sat there pressing buttons playing a make believe game on a television , you are not gaining the required fitness and physical activity of playing the actual sport. Some may press buttons better than others but it still doesn't make it a sport

What's really the difference between watching Football on TV and watching a game of FIFA?

Seriously ? One you watching the actual sport the other you are watching people press buttons to make an imaginary person play an imaginary game - it's not real

Consoles can be good fun and a laugh with mates and kids can have fun with them - but that's what they are fun - not sports and certainly not ones that people should watch or be involved in any real sports events.

I haven't watched any of the games online. So can i ask, this 200k prize competition, did it invilve this game mode of 11 players on each team?

I've played games since they went online and can honestly say that cod and battlefield were the only ones i ever knew people to regularly team up with people.

Such a shame the naysayers here have no influence over what is class as an esport or what is televised.

Oh wait, no. It's a good thing.

You don't know what you're talking about. It doesn't have to be random people, you see your friends are online, you talk to them. You play with them, you have group chats with a group of friends. It's socialising and you're gaining social skills.

You're obviously not gaining physical fitness, but you're gaining other skills. Tactical nouse, hand-eye ordination, reflexes, concentration, all transferable skills that can be put to use when playing physical sports, or doing anything in life. To write it off as simply "pressing buttons" really doesn't give it credit for what it is. These professional FIFA players are amazing at what they do, there's so much skill involved.

You don't really see the person that's "pressing the buttons" when you watch FIWC though (at least it's not the main focus point anyway), you're watching the football match. It's no different to watching any other football match other than it's not real. It looks real though, and if anything watching a good FIFA match is more exciting. It's fast-paced, the games are shorter so more happens in a short space of time and yet it still maintains the tactical element of the game. There's hardly any difference at all.

It also helps grow the sport of football. These kids that are diehard FUT players will know so much about Football, they'll know players from leagues from all around the world due to playing FIFA, I know people personally who have got into the real sport because of FIFA. Also, the large majority of FIFA youtubers all make "Real Life" football videos as well, so they're not just playing video games, they love the sport, and when they can they play that too. It's not one or the other.

Nah, so it's one guy controlling the whole team.

Could easily say "oh they're just swinging their legs at a plastic sphere filled with air" about football. Pathetic narrowmindedness on show here.

Which does kinda kill the idea of it being good for growing social skills (at the top level at least).

i don't see gaming as a bad thing as I've said already, just the idea that it may inspire kids to prefer it to real sports.

kids strop during real sports and will face consequences (being dropped, detention, grounded etc), if they rage quit on FIFA where's the restraint?

i see pros and cons for it.

overall It can be good asset to a rounded lifestyle imo, but if as has been claimed it becomes as popular as real life sports, it'll be to the detriment of those the sporting fraternity imo.

Sorry but that's not even close,

to perform like for like skills, one needs more training. Give 10 youngsters the ball on the half way line and get them to play a crossfield pass in real life, how many would manage it. Then tell them to do it on FIFA and see which is more successful first time.

I could play almost every tiger woods course 18 under as a kid within a year of owning the game. I can't get anywhere near par on the course in real life.

thats not to say the best gamers don't practice loads. But ask yourself this. Do you want a trained soldier on the front line, or the one with the best k/d ratio in COD?

I really don't think the majority of kids will prefer it rather than doing the real thing.
Teenage boys have access to lots of things on the net,but I'm sure they prefer doing it for real😂.
