Evening all,

Im still on this better players vs GI iron adventure....Everyone can see what im currently using in my sig but again i took out that wilsonstaff FG Tour 6 iron yesterday to see what the story was on the course with it...

Im just wondering for all you low boys that have grown up probably hitting "hard to hit clubs" if you still miss greens left and right and is this something that comes with experience as to the straighness of your shots....

Say from a 6 iron distance from the green yesterday i hit the ball on ten holes from 155 mtrs.....With the wilsonstaff....
Of the 10 i hit the centre of the green on 4 of them missed one just short and left missed 1 short and right only by 2 metres or so and i missed 4 pin high and left....

Oh and of the ones i hit the green on i parred all 4....And got up and down for par on 4 of the other holes with 2 bogies thrown in for good measure.

So im just wondering would GI clubs have narrowed my misses....

Not bad hitting. Dont think you would have done ant better with GI clubs. But what I will say is, from what you have written you must have been right on the limit of the club(you did not miss one long). So take one club more and hit it easy then you will hit more greens. Only my opinion though.

Personally I'd be happy with 4/10 hitting the green with a 6 iron.

Bladed (or MB) against GI shouldn't really affect the direction of the shot I don't think. If the face and path are different then the ball will curve no matter which type of club you're using. The advantage of the GI club as far as I'm aware is lower COG (easier to get the ball up) and larger effective sweetspot (don't lose as much distance on miss-hits).

Also (my opinion only) it's not a good idea to keep trying different clubs out once you've settled on your weapons of choice. ;)

When I swapped over from my x20's to my current pings, the one thing I noticed was an off centre hit didn't go off course as much as with the Callaways. With them an off centre shot still went a good distance, wether that be in the right direction or not. With the ping a off centre shot stills goes straight but loses alot of distance.

Dave your on the ball mate....That would be the limit for my 6 iron....Id even say i was stepping on it just a little more than i should have been....
Not sure what the story is with the forged heads of the wilsons and the stiffer shaft but they are easily longer than my pings...I also hit the pings from the same distance and they were definitely shorter.

One thing i dont have is a problem getting the ball airborn Region.....Its more direction i struggle with but i think that may have been the reason i posted as i was curious to see what others had thought and what their game was like.
Iv always wondered how many times a green should be hit from a 6 iron distance....
I think one area i struggle with is expecting to hit the majority of my irons and have them land on the green from say 150-160 mtrs......

I guess missing a few should be par for the course off a 16 handicap....

I have found that with my new pings a mishit shot does go shorter but straighter, but I can live with short on the fairway not long in a bush.

Definitely found the game better having taken a perceived step back from TM TP's with a small cavity to the bigger and more fogiving R11's. Distance has increased and the flight of the ball is better. I am still directionally challenged to the point where I'm thinking of applying for a government grant as it must come under the Disability Act! It's either that or I'm a numpty who can't get the clubhead travelling on the right path and it can't be me surely :mmm:
