Do you prefer hitting 8,6,4 irons or 9,7,5?

for example if you had to grab only 3 clubs in a hurry would it be the odds or evens?

9,7,5 specially around the green as 9 or 7 are my chipping variations depending on how far from the hole I am. (note signature) you all ought to try it rather than a hopeful hit with the putter, a 9 will roll out about the same length as its first bounce the 7 about half again on that again. Just look where you want the first bounce to be and watch it roll up next to the pin. take out that long grass before you reach the green which can stop it or turn it.

Forty odd years ago my father introduced my brother and me to golf. He bought us a second hand set between us and my brother got the odd numbers and I had the evens. Since then I have always preferred the even numbers, although I think it is beginning to wear off now. (Incidentally, I have changed my clubs since then.)

Evens, don't really know why, maybe that I always am the odd one...

What I mean is that in golf the half set is made out of odds and therefore evens is odds. So to go for the evens is to go for the odds.

So me (the odd one), chooses for the evens, as they are odds...

Sounds like two questions. :o

To the first part.....no idea.

As for the example, I'd take 8/6/4 as you wouldn't see me on the course without a PW.

However, if I was going to the range I'd take 5/7/9.

My favourite range set is 3w/3h/5/7/9. I don't hit drivers or wedges unless it's the day before a comp.

Can I rest my brain now. :)

Any club but the 7 iron. I have no idea why, but I simply can not hit it clean. I know its all sodding mental, but I hate the bleedin thing

I had a 7 iron I couldn't hit (part of a set from 1992).

My pro checked it out and discovered it was miles off the lie of the rest of the set.

and the shaft was bent.

Someone had probably run it over....

don't know who. :o

I am about to get my pencil bag back out for the winter. Going to go D, 4w, 3h, 5, 7, 9, 50, putter. So I guess I am odds. Problem is, I like my 8i, so not sure where that leaves me.

Never a question that has crossed my mind really. Thinking about it now though and I cant honestly say either way tbh. If I go the practice ground I take all my clubs anyway , but if pushed to choose cos my life depended on it then i'd take 8,7 and 4 :D

range set i tend to take pw/8/6/4( although the 4 has now been replaced with 3h) but on the course i tend to opt for odds, no wonder my game has broken down, im playing with teh clubs that im not practicing with....

Hadn't give it much thought but i would go towards the odds.

Funny enough, playing in a foursome competition on Saturday and i wanted to drive off on the even holes. Our 3rd and 13th holes are problem holes for driving for me.
