After playing with a friend last night that I had never played with before I started wondering about the different things people do when they nail a drive, as we were clearly quite different in this respect. Having given it some thought even on tour there are obvious people that fit into two different categories- the hold your swing and pose staring down the fairway (think Cobra advert with david feherty and Ian poulter) brigade. And the almost immediately bend down, pick up your tee and walk to your bag crew that leave their opponents to stare in wonder at the great shot in a great show of confidence about where the ball will end up: the middle of the fairway.

I in general fit into the first group, I like to pose and hold a balanced follow through and watch the ball the whole way however I have occasionally been known to pick the tee up quickly and walk off the tee with a big grin on my face.

Which of these group do you fit into when you nail a drive, or do you indeed do something different?

If it is nailed, then pick up the tee, and walk away, may be casually look up to see it land while putting head cover on.
If not nailed, hold the pose, and look to see which bit of jungle I will have to wade into. (in theory, but probably look away in disgust, and not have a clue where to look).

As someone who wears Myjoys, and colour co-ordinated outfits I am in the poseur category by default. If I smoke one I tend to be down quickly to pick up my tee and watch the glorious outcome. If I hit a duff one I'll be talking to it in the air and preparing myself to hit it out of the long stuff

when i nail one i bend down pick the tee up, walk to my bag, put the club away, pick my bag up, wait for my playing partners to play and then walk down the fairway whilst watching my ball land!(hows that for posing) if i duff it then i turn the air blue!

I am a tee picker-upper but its not posing its just habbit. If its a bit wonky a tend to hold and watch it till it lands talking to it all the time "get down you b*tch"

I tend to stand shouting at the ball, things like "Turn, turn" (like it will actually work!).

Generally if it's a good un I watch it all the way. If it's a bad un I watch right up until the moment it's about to land in the bad stuff and then turn to my partner and say "Where did that one land" (Yes I know it's annoying I just can't face seeing my ball land in the rough)

I do this also - pity I hold more finishes than tee lifts.

In the unlikely event that I wallop a drive right down the middle I immediately assume the pose of Rocky Balboa at the top of those steps and bounce up and down on the balls of my feet whilst triumphantly punching the air with both hands......usually accompanied by me shouting "GET IN THE HOLE" or "I'M DA MAN" :D :D

Seriously though, I always hold my finishing position until I see where the ball lands - good or bad.
If I don't watch it all the way i'll struggle to find it again.
The only thing I do differently for a great shot is to release my grip and just let the club fall through my hands and catch the shaft just below the head before putting it back in the bag.
Why?.... I dunno! just one of these weird things I suppose.

On a tangent here……..

After hitting a great shot Tiger spins the club in his hand, before hitting his next shot he spins the club again to remind him of positive thoughts and to put himself into the correct frame of mind.

I have tried it a few times on the odd occasion of a great shot and it does work.

I am the same, well unless its a real bad one and I am already in the bag and back on the tee reloading the provisional before the first hits the trees.

if it's a bad one I'll hold the pose but with head turning to try to find it before it lands - you will never be looking in the right direction.
if a good one, still hold the pose but more relaxed, let the club drop and try to keep the silly grin of my face.

Very good!! lol.

If I've hit a solid drive, I tend just to pick up the tee, have a dry smile (to myself) and walk confidently back to my bag and stow the driver. I often make a comment about being lucky or something self-deprecating.

If I've hit a bad one......I'll most likely talk to it and then make a "pained" grumble......or a tut......

Sometimes, with an iron flying straight at the flag on a short hole, I will hold the finish and pose for a split second, it's not an intentional thing, it just seems natural to enjoy the moment.

Would try to hold it but not supple enough so bend down and pick up the tee, give a sly glance to make sure I know where it's ended up as the eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
Don't really show too much emotion as the next bad one is just around the corner. Have punched the air when making eagle and had the warm feeling when making birdie, at least that's what I hope it is and not the onset of incontinence

I tend to watch a good drive down, I suppose holding somne sort of pose. but I also have a disconcerting habit of snatching up my tee & turning away when I hit a bad or naff shot, which has the consiquence of needing to remember to turn back again pdq if I have any hope of knowing where my bad shot has just gone.
