Are you a golfing snob ?

I can be, but only in the extreme. As most know my home club is a Municipal and most of the time folks especially members wear the correct attire but you do get the odd chav on, in fact on Monday I spotted three lads (chavs) with their tops off walking down our fourth!!

I do like to have decent kit and wear nice golf clothing and things, to me it makes you feel part of the game and scene, sometimes its like you wouldn’t turn up at an eminem gig wearing a suit would you? That said it seems my wardrobe over the past two years of golf has turned from casual to golf clothing, in fact I don't think I have owned so many polos in my life :)

I have been more embarrased with the show-off, full set of gleaming new TaylorMade's who can't hit a barn door and has no knowledge of the etiquette of the game than a genuine beginner with a starter set.

We have all had to start at some time and I think we should be encouraging as many people to play the game as possible, whatever their ability - as long as they are respectful and keep up a pace of play I don't see a problem.

despite being someone who sees no problem with wearing shorts and is put of by snobby clubs and the dinosaur image of golf that some people seem desperate to cling to I don't like looking shabby regardless of where I play and also don't like cheap brands.

I don't think anyone that over uses exclamation marks and question marks has the right to moan about anyone though, but thats just my personal pet hate :) :)

What about folks that don't use capitals, punctuation or does not understand sentence construction? :D

capitals and grammar are over-rated :)

(I saw that coming a mile off after I read my post back )

So your in work, the mini heatwave is at its peak and all you can think about is at leaving at 5pm on the nose to head straight for the club for the evening roll p.......the joys of Summer !!! The following day your still on a high in work, exchanging stories enthusiastically with your golfing colleagues about how you 3 stabbed to lose the money on the last and are desperatly trying to convince them (and yourself) that your playing partners really should have conceded that snaking 2 footer . . . . .

Then, another colleague joins the conversation, a nice enough guy who's a once a year golfer with a set of Donnay's older that your dear old dad. He's keen for a game and knowing the muni's are 8 groups deep on the 1st every night this week he say's how he'd love to play at your course and that you should definately get a round in one evening this week or next. You know the type of golfer, the guy who at work society days holes out for a 12 for 0 points, the guy who will take divots the length of a size 16 shoe out of your course and in the back of you rmind your thinking that if you do say yes, will he wear the same 10 gallon straw hat he wore at the works society day last year ????

So what do you say ?? Are you keen to spread the love of our beautiful game and immidiately get him down at your course the following evening, or, do you make your excuses and say that you have been playing far too much during the week and, if you play any more your wife will shove your 3 iron where the Summer sun really doesn't shine . . .

Haha Bunker have you got my office bugged??????

I dont think too much about capitals and punctuation as they have no place in the written word. To many people put much impotance on all that stuf and i hav no idea y all everybody uses it i no what im talking about and im sure every1 can reed what im saying so whats the prob its defo going out of fashon so we all shood just rite fonetikaly to all those peeps who keep using it he should now no your wasting your time just chil about all the boring gramer and stuph and rite in a way every1 can reed it easy over to u m8. ;)

I see golf more as a social thing than anything more serious, and I'm sure the guy in question would like to think he was welcome at your home course. It's only one round and it's nice to be nice, so I say go for it.Give him a high handicap and tell him loser buys the beer, make it fun but also with a competitive edge.

As it says in the good book "let ye who is without sin cast the first stone"

We all started somewhere, some earlier in life than others. It's a game we can all enjoy so let's give everyone a chance, shorts, donnay clubs and all.

Looking through some of the recent posts on the forum, would anyone thinking about starting out really want to take up this wonderfull game ? IMO we sometimes portray ourselves really badly by what we put forward on the forum. It's only a game, we play it for enjoyment (supposedly) and with friends.

So lets get out there and play.

:)

You should count yourself lucky, I work in a school with at least 150 members of staff and still can't find anyone who wants to play. Meaning I am still spending more time at the range than on the course, as I hate pitching up by my self and asking to join games like a beggar.

( I am not an English teacher before anyone jumps on my exclamation hate that seems to have back fired massively in my direction.....jerks :) )

No....he's the Headmaster!!!!! :D

Take him out, it could be the start of a beautiful friendship and he might just turn out to be a sleeper who will then invite you to carry his bag at The Open or the masters.
