Its already started I book the morning off Work yesterday and wake up to see FROST -1 Temp not good :(

Do you guys think were in for a bad winter this year?

lol, 1st week in November and we were still playing in shirt sleeves, hardly unheard of to have had far worse than a frost by now, that said who knows whats ahead for the rest of winter

Pishing down here although it's set to brighten later.
Been warm for November so far.
We'll pay for it around January when the whole of the World grinds to a halt due to 3 inches of snow....

We were on winter greens Saturday and Sunday mornings due to frost. Moved onto big greens in the afternoon when the sun heated the place up to about 3 degrees though.

Is it going to be a bad winter? Who knows? Can it be worse than last years winter?

Played Hawkstone park in a work society Friday and Saturday.

Beautiful sun shine and polo shirts both days. We always play there in November and this is the first year I haven't needed an aqualung and a pair of lead diving boots to make it round the course.

I think the weather will get colder, at the end of the day it's winter. As to how cold, who knows????

Can't control my golf ball and certainly can't influence the elements so it'll be what it will be. At the moment the course is coping well with the wet weather we've had but once the temperature drops in December I'm guessing it'll be back to temps. Thats when I have the usual debate with myself about the validity of trying to stop a ball on a tiny bit of frozen fairway actually benefitting my game and whether an hour working constructively on my swing is not time better served

no frost down south but the weather is very up and down, one day nice and warm 55*, nothing but a tee shirt and base layer, next day its 45* bitter wind and its cold again. and the rain is either off or major showers ...

i reckon its going to be a hard winter, i hope not.... but its a gut feeling.

Just because we've had a couple of bad winters in a row, everyone seems to be all doom & gloom as far as this coming winter is concerned.

Last year we lost Dec to the snow, 2009 we lost Jan to the snow. I actually have to go back to the winter of 1995-1996 where we had the big freeze over the last two weeks of December to find the next bad winter. If I go far enough back, 1981-82 was again a mid Dec cold & snowy spell that lasted about three weeks.

Most of the other years in between we've had a flurry of snow and a couple of days where the course is white, but in reality, it's not that bad is it ?

Two bad winters in a row does not a golfing ice age make ;)

Fingers crossed for a mild one - pairs winter league starts later this month which will be a first for me so hoping I can play right through.

However, I am in Upper Austria staying at a hotel in the mountains mid December (it's all in the name of work before you ask) and although there is free golf I have a feeling I may not be taking my clubs unless I put a snow shovel in as well.:)

Nice day again here. Saw a couple of the boys in town on my way back from a meeting and they had both played in shorts this morning.

Thats real men for you not like you lot of southern softys worrying about a bit of frost :)

The only reason we southern softies worry about a bit of frost is that the green keepers, in their wisdom, immediately put us onto temporary greens until about May time once they even get a sniff of a bit of frost. This is no fun at all, and as a highly experienced green keeper (obviously), I can't see that the frost does any damage at all. It is complete cobblers.

The long range forecast we have had at work has, in short, said a colder than average winter. I don't mind the cold - it's the inch of snow which lingers for a month I can't stand.

beautiful up here today... short sleeves and an empty course... We were back on regular greens and they were as hard as they have been for a few months.. If it stays like this, i'll be a happy man, especially if I can keep up todays scoring...

Last couple of days have been a bit nippy in bristol and was a very wet week last week which dampened our course a fair bit :/ playing in the winter league for the first time also this year so could be a shock to the system!

Well, on Monday morning we had a fairly thick frost on the ground. I was at one of our sports centres whilst at work and saw four guys playing tennis on a clay court, in shorts and short sleeved shirts. The grass banking behind the court has frost on it at 11:30am :)

At the end of the day what you going to do anyway? If it does snow it does. I think we've been pretty lucky up until the last couple of years and to be honest I'm just happy to get out and play at this time of year. I'm no big fan of temps and so will sometimes give it a miss if we get a heavy frost and hit some balls instead as I think its more productice by thats just me.
