They should get the same pay rise as other public sector workers. Or maybe get the IPSA to look at the wages of the whole public sector.:angry:


Didn't have a pay rise in 5 years and whenever I did get a rise it was also offset by costs being increased.

I believe that's what they've recommended - in line with RPI after 2015 (as other Civil Servants are meant to get but haven't been getting!).

This is still the residue of sorting out the Expenses issue!

I haven't seen the actual breakdown, but I suspect the overall package is not 11%. That is likely to be the Salary (taxable) portion which does need to go up imo. The 'Perks' package needs to be reduced - to a 'fair and reasonable' level, with harsher (Criminal even) penalties for cheating!

And as Doon posted, some anomolies like non-attending needs to be covered too.

The version of the story given to me was incorrect and it does seem that they are opposed to this increase at this time. To the Ministers and Opposition spokesmen who have voiced their objection to the IPSA proposal I unequivocally say sorry.

However, it does appear that there are a number of backbenchers who would see nothing untoward in accepting the rise of 11% whilst the public at large are continuing to endure pay freezes or minimal increases and job losses.
So some, at least, continue to adhere to the old adage of "do as I say, not as I do".

It will be mildly amusing to watch what DC does, as on the one hand he can't possibly support the rise in public but it seems he has a significant bunch of back benchers, inclduding some senior party members looking for the increase to go through.

The other point of note is that while salaries are going up, expenses are coming down as well as their pensions and over generous re-settlement grants. I don't know if the overall bill inc. expenses will go up or down but it would be better to have more salary and less expenses IMHO as the whole expenses gravy train needs to be put right, where as every extra £1 in salary means another £0.40 paid in tax. Expenses are a tax free rip off...
 
Don't agree at all with the posters who are claiming that MP's pay should be higher to attract a higher standard of applicant. A position in Government is a calling, not a regular job. As with other "callings", the pay should be a secondary priority. I'm sure that if pay was kept at it's current level, not a single MP' would walk away, and even if they did, I'm sure they would be quickly replaced with another identikit "just out of University" candidate..

Anyway, you shouldn't be allowed to become an MP until you have several (maybe 10) years experience in the real world..:cool:

Yes Pension and we get our own medical services.

Housing we pay for it . Don't get child care , education ? Do you mean getting taught the specifics of the job ?

Don't get "non business " travel.

And the discounts have remarkably reduced

People on benefits get a great deal more than people in the military.

The positives used to outweigh the negatives in the military - don't believe it's the case any more.

Pension - yes
healthcare.....? We have a GP on base we can use but everything else goes through the NHS
housing..... Yes but we still have to pay for it, a lot more than people that live in council owned housing
child-care? That is a new one on me
education? What education is this?
travel? Not sure what travel this is
purchase discounts? Please let me know where this is. Is that like ford that offer a military discount, but anyone could go into a showroom and get a better deal. Or maybe it is the airlines that I got a better deal by not saying I am in the military
