Are the days of complete iron sets numbered?

Thing is, if even Mizuno's tour players aren't bagging a bladed 1 iron, why are they going to make one for sale to your average hacker? There isn't a market.

True, but it's Mizuno and when they make a 1 or a 2 iron in there tour blades it is a lovely club. I'd buy one, most wouldn't even think about it so I guess it's just more of a shame from my point of view. You might even find them in one or two tour players bags but hardly any in the big scheme of things.
I agree there isn't any real market for them but there hasn't really been for 10 years. It always seemed like a excercise in beautiful club making in recent years even though they knew the market wasn't there.

I can totally see the need for 2 maybe 3 iron but not a 1 iron although i agree it is a beautiful looking club i just think if you have a 1 iron you are loosing the need for a 3 wood. cant imagine too many tour players carrying a 1 iron especially on the PGA tour nowadays when they are big lush parkland courses. I bet a few used them in the open a 100 years ago though.

Probably something to do with the bravado that goes with my game but when I have a full set in tow there is usually a 1 or 2 iron in there. a 1 iron seems to go a shade further than my three wood and very handy in strong winds so it does have it uses. Agreed that in nice conditions on a lush course it looks out of place.
It's probably something I want in my bag more than I need but at my level its all about enjoyment and I enjoy having a tiny head on the end of a long shaft!! :D

mine came as 3 - PW but then the model (MacGregor 565) came out in 2005, got them new at a hell of a discount in 2008.

I like my 4-i and would always have it the bag, even though it goes wrong at times. The 3-i I'm working on but would prefer that to a 5-wood - I don't do woods very well.
