Anyone use Premium Fuel?

Whether you car will improve performance wise is all down to if your vehicle has a knock sensor or not. If it does, it can detect the higher RON and adjust. No knock sensor and it'll not improve performance but may keep things like you MAF sensors and ports clearer of crap.

I run mine on VPower (Mk2 Focus RS) because its mapped for that fuel. Last week and a half I've used 3 tanks!

Regular cars do not need higher ron rated fuel. High performance and imported performance cars (higher percenyage would be turbo/super charged) would certainly need it or a software change at the very least to reduce ignition timing otherwise the engine wouldnt last very long at all due to knock/pre det. Forced induction engines can run higher timing but when you use poor grade or insufficient quality fuel it goes wrong quite spectacularly.

I did a long term comparison in my last taxi a while back, shell v power vs supermarket diesel, a good couple of thousand miles for each so a good cross section of driving. V power definitely gave me better mpg and the car seemed to run better, however when i did the maths both fuels came out costing 14p per mile believe it or not

Pretty much mirrors my experience, I found that any additional cost at the pump was reflected in the increased mpg, and it certainly picked up better on the good stuff. As I'm intending to run this one into the ground, anything that will clean the engine & keep it running sweeter has got to be a bonus, especially as it isn't costing me any more.

I use premium fuel because my car is mapped to expect it. I guess if I put regular in it would adjust itself to suit but I'm just in the habit now.

I used to use only Shell, but now it's whatever I'm closest to when I need it from BP, Shell or Tesco.

Supermarket fuel gets some bad press but it has to meet standards and the important thing is for fuel to be turned over and not left for too long. Supermarket fuel is turned over quicker than most so it ticks that box. Fuel is tested and regulated pretty stringently so the idea it will do damage is plain wrong.

I'm not sure that really applies any more.
Last year I got my Aunt's car started after it had been sat in a garage for eight years.
It needed a jump start, obviously, but ran perfectly with ¾ tank of 8 year old fuel in it.
I sold it without re-fuelling ................. it ran as smooth as silk!

I know with a couple of BMWs and Audis I've had in the past, the owner's manual has strongly recommended Premium fuel. However, when you read the small print, by "Premium" they mean a RON rating of 95. In lots of other countries standard fuel is 91 RON and premium is 95, whereas in the UK 95 is normal and 97+ is premium. So normal 95 fuel is just fine.
