Did anyone watch Ricky Gervais's new comedy Derek last night? I thought it was fantastic and up there with the office. The characters were great, funny yet believable, and the process of what the nursing home was going through very up to date. I loved it, bring on more.

Usual unsubtle caricature approach. More stage farce than good comedy. Seems cheaply produced too.

The Yanks seem to be producing better comedy progs than the Brits these days imo.

I watched the pilot series last year, didnt find it funny at all. just a bit weird, and i like gervais! saw him live in Oxford a few years ago..

Might give this series a chance, will have a look on demand..

I thought it was OK. I hope it'll get better with time.
I'm not Gervais' biggest fan. His sitcom stuff is brilliant but I have a fear that Merchant is the real talent. Gervais doing stand up is very weak to my mind.

Drawboy, you got it spot on.

Everyone else can jog on. :)

It wasn't meant to be a comedy, it was a drama with funny moments. Never has a program so poignantly captured the definition of kindness and sincerity.

I'll happily admit I shed a tear during at least three of the episodes.

Gervais is a writing genius and once again he has absolutely nailed it. His casting of Karl Pilkington was arguably the best thing of this show. His no nonsense opinions summed up what most of us see and feel every day.

Gervais consistent in dividing opinion again.

Brilliant characters and I enjoyed the series all the way through. Excellent viewing.

Laughed and cried.
