Heard decent reviews about this place and I'm looking to play it.

Anyone played it?

It's the one with a island green for the 18th like TPC sawgrass's 17th.

Played it last year - not impressed. No course guide, too many blind shots, too many concrete cart paths, a big queue on the 17th tee even though the course was quiet, and it rained all day!

Shame was looking forward to it... Have you got any recommendation's for good courses round our way, played Calderfields yesterday and thought it was boring, liked Wishaw a few months back though.

I played it on a society day last year, again not one I would rush back to play again, If it wasn't for the 18th I would not remember a lot about the course.

Played it a few years ago, will be good when it's matured. Course was built with a view to stage county matches. Will play again, just to play the 18th and a couple of par5s on front nine.

Sorry, I meant a queue on the 18th, not 17th. One of the nicest courses in the area is Harborne (the private one, not the 9 hole muni). Played it last year on a Greenfree or 2-4-1 voucher.

A decent pay n' play not far from you is Lichfield, again you can use vouchers.

If you want to try a challenging municipal give the Lickey Hills a try.

Yes, I can vouch for both courses mentioned here, and also the little 9 hole muni which isn't bad if your looking for a quick 9 holes!

Lickey Hills has been tipped as being one of the best municipal courses in the country, some very challenging holes there, in saying that, played there on Friday, and had a mare!! Well worth a visit in my eyes!

Cheers for the recommendation's guys I can play Licky Hills and all the My Time Golf courses in Birmingham for free as we had a under 25 £100 membership at Pype Hayes before they took over and got upgraded to gold My Time member which allows free play at any one of there course :-) not bad for £100!!!

Hoping to join a proper club when it runs out in Feb though.

You're welcome to come to Kenilworth and I'll sign you in. Another course worth playing.About 8 miles from WMGC

I've played West Midlands and it's okay but fairy new, conditioning can be dodgy and layout gimmicky. Have you tried Ladbrook Park which is at Tanworth in Arden just off jn 3 of the M42 (description in hidden gem article in this months GM), because of the poor weather and fewer visitors than normal as a result we are now allowing non members on weekend afternoons from 3pm. The course is in pretty good nick (one or two areas are scarred from previous standing water) and the greens are excellent. Is miles better than West Midlands.

ps - happy to sign you in if it helps - also the class acts locally are olton, copt heath, harborne and I've heard Kings Norton is good but havent played. Shirley, Maxstoke, Robin Hood, Fulford and Gay Hill are all a slight notch below ... have you played the Warwickshire ... great layout and I would take up the Kenilworth offer too

Gay Hill is worth a try, always helpful and a decent layout.

Copt Heath wa sa good track, although to be fair when I played on the county card they were doing lots of work, so I'm sure it will be better next time.

The Warwickshire is a typical resort course imo, nothing special.

West Midlands is ok for society's, I wouldn't pay to visit on my own.

If you like a 5 hour round, then The Warwickshire will provide!!!

I can say that I've played most of the courses mentioned and it's very much you get what you pay for. Played W Mids last weekend it's a decent pay and play 4 ball for £26 each on a Saturday morning is reasonable value.

My favourites locally, Kings Norton, Ladbrook Park, Robin Hood, Handsworth and one I played a few weeks ago Sandwell Park. You're quite spoiled around Birmingham as there are some quality tracks around the city and most are reasonable value.
