Anyone played this course?

I'm going for a corporate day there on June 18th and can only find limited information on the club's website. For such a supposedly nice course their website is pants!!

I have only played the Kingfisher Course as it's Members-Only on the Waterfall usually. Seeing as the Kingfisher was very much the second-class 18, we had a good time with some interesting holes and the course was in above average condition.

What is outstanding is the excellent clubhouse which has a very nice 'feel' with a great balcony overlooking the course. Unfortunately this balcony also looks over the 1st tee which is somewhat daunting as the hole requires an accurate and relatively long carry over some woody stuff. Not one for a power 'top' whilst the rest of the competitors look on smirking! :D

Look at one of the photos showing the clubhouse in the background and a green in the foreground - that's the 1st hole.

Can't comment on the course but it looked very nice and I am sure you will have a great time. Let me know how you got on!

Agree about the website - all form and no function. Just tell me about the course with photos and a card!!

I played it 6 weeks ago. What would you like to know about it?
I could tell you every shot I hit if you like :D :D :D

I didn't think much of the greens at the time, frankly I thought they were terrible, especially for a 'private members only' course. It's been a lot drier recently and the sun's come out so MAYBE they have better coverage.

If I had to pay £40 to play it tomorrow I'd rather give it a miss and go to East Sussex National but it was only £12 for me to play it with a member (and he paid that too) so I wasn't going to turn it down :)

You'll definately need to take a skycaddie with you as there are quite a few blind/elevated shots into greens so knowing your exact yardage is going to help.

I'd love to give an all singing all dancing thumbs up review of the course but I wouldn't give it more than 6/10. If you're playing with a load of buddies you'll probably have a great time there. The uphill blind par 4 of only 251yds will get heads on the green turning no doubt :D

Sometimes what you get with a club that has a fantastic clubhouse and facilities is a slightly neglected course, Ive found this at a few 'country club' types and what justoneuk says, doesnt surprise me. Then again, Ive never been so it may just be an off day/week/month/year...... :D
When you pay a lot of money at a club you should get a great course all the time.

Thanks for that JustOne, the guy from the company who has organised it said that its quite a tricky course.

He also said its quite tough on the legs so we've all got buggies for the round too :)

Shame about it not being in any sort of condition. :(

We used to have a regular society trip there every year back in the 90s and I remember it as one of my fave courses ever.

36 holes was a killer, mind. And in those days it was a carry bag both rounds, too.

Have played here a few times but not recently.
When I first played it, I thought it was absolutely fantastic and couldn't wait to go back. A good mix of holes, with some right testers. They then changed the course around when they built a new clubhouse quite a few years ago and somehow the course lost a bit of character. Last time I played it was about 5 or 6 years ago, and whilst still a reasonable track I wasn't overly impressed. It may be because during the intervening years I had played a lot more "top" courses which kind of puts things in perspective. If you have never played there before I still think you will enjoy it. It was always in good condition when I played there, no complaints about that. But they only had the one course then. Maybe with two some of the greenkeepers are spread a little thin?

It would be interesting to know what you think of it. I did say to someone that I'd be happy to play it again in the middle of the Summer just to give it one more try.

It IS a nice course, some interesting holes and most of the holes are quite individual (you can't go carving it onto another fairway). Which reminds me... The 12th goes up the hill par 4, the 13th comes back down next to it par 5.... it's OOB on the right for your 12th tee shot (there's white posts between the fairways) it's NOT out of bounds coming back down. UM, To clarify...... you CAN'T hit your 12th tee shot onto the 13th fairway but you CAN hit your 13th teeshot onto the 12th without penalty.

On the blind 251 yards uphill par 4 the green is as far LEFT as you can see along the tree line... but don't hook it. :)

On the 18th you can pretty much hit your driver as there's more runout than it looks from the tee, there's a flat bit at the bottom of the slope that you can't see from the tee. The closer you get to the green though the more uphill will become.

Hope this helps...

Vig mate, do me a favour...... ;)

June 18th, I'll check my whore's diary, if I haven't anything sorted for the week, I may be able to help you out.
I can then get it back on the Sunday at the NE/Nw meet
