Anyone played Royston GC

Hope you are fit. I have not played there for several years, but do remember it to have some long uphill slogs!

Beware of people walking around the course - it used to be land that is open to the public, so they can wander all over the place.

Played it many years ago, its hilly and quite a hard walk (i think you need to drive from the clubhouse to the first tee as its a fair trek). When on the greens, everything breaks towards the road!

Played this one a few times, mainly because I like it but then I must have a masochistic streak. Fair bet with the buggy, don't like them myself but you won't catch me carrying round there.
Points to note:
The proshop and clubhouse are about 500 yards uphill from the first tee. There is a car park at the lower level so choice is yours.
As has been said lots of uphill, starting at the first. The course generally stays dry, mostly because water goes downhill but also because of the wind. Beware the wind, it can have quite an effect.
Also as has been said, the general public are often out and not only on the footpaths. As usual many have absolutely no idea what a golf ball can do; how about a picnic right next to a green?
A fair bit of variety with the greens, some have a steep drop off, a couple well down in a bowl - easy to run out on those.
Short par 4 11th is reachable, just, but so is the footpath immediately behind.

I used to be a member there. Really enjoyed it. It's on the heath so lovely tight springy turf. Not the longest but some tough slopes and drop offs around the greens defend the course well. It's on pretty much the last hill before the fens start so the views are awesome. Enjoy.
