Anyone play worse when they are on their own?

Used to always play on my own. Never took it too seriously and would normally play two or three balls if the course was empty! Ball ache when you hook ball 1 off the tee and then slice ball 2 though :swing:

i don't tend to play on my own. I find i bugger about and not take it seriously, so always play with people and make sure we play for something, even if its just for £1

Played today & we seen a guy out there on his own, we all felt sorry for him as it was a great day with the sun shining & the poor sod was all alone.

Maybe he wanted to be alone. If I fancy a bit of time away from the world then I will often retreat to the course and wander round on my own.

There's a difference between practicing and playing but purposely going for a game yourself! Do some folk actually play out and keep a score? Extreme and lonely maybe mean the same thing.

Regularly go out on my own, the joys of it are that you get to play at your own pace, there's nobody trying to put you off/hurry you up/whinging/whining or generally giving off negative vibes, sometimes I'll do the whole course other times I'll just do the front 11 and if you do play a ***** shot and the course is quiet you can take a couple of practice balls if you want and try and work out what you did wrong rather than someone else telling 'oh you did this wrong or that wrong' it's actually quite relaxing !... 👍

May well have been a personal decision. Perhaps he only wanted to play a few holes or try a few things out on the course

No he played 18 holes & the course was full due to it being a Saturday morning so he was unable to play a few balls as its not allowed, must have been murder out there on his own surrounded by four/three balls

No I don't like playing with high handicap players & that is my choice & it has never caused me any issues at all plus I don't see the point in playing alone where is the enjoyment in that?

Can you explain why you think I have taken up the wrong game, to my knowledge there are no competitions at all for playing on your own, who can you beat there

You can beat yourself. Off.

Complete opposite for me - I play some of my best golf when out on my own. I tend to take my time more when playing solo; in a group I always seem to rush. One of the big things I want to work on this season.

Fella I played a lot with last year says he shot in the 70s every time when playing by himself.....yet every time he played a comp he shot in the 100s.

He either suffers major stage fright....or he's a liar!!

Based on my limited experience to date I don't think it makes much difference. First time I broke 100 was on my own, the only other time was in a competition.

I sometimes play worse when playing on my own.

The reason is, I can get in too much of a rush when playing alone, kind of throwing my rhythm off..

Turns out the small pauses you get when playing with others (waiting for everyone to tee off, others hitting their shots from the fairway, etc.) are actually good for my game.
