Unfortunately I've had a serious falling out with my Ping I15's  and as a result I'm considering a change of clubs. My pro suggested the AP1's as a possible replacement and I was wondering if any of you have any comments or views on them?

My confidence levels are at an all time low and despite regular lessons I haven't shot a decent score since last october - I kid you not. Something has to change and soon. :(

Ta,
John,

Brendy has the AP2's
Tiger uses the AP1's and I think he gets on well with them. More forgiving than the AP2 - don't think they're forged though. A good iron.

AP1s are not forged. Not sure this really matters.

I watched my course pro tee off on Sunday. What's in his bag? AP1s. If they are good enough for him, I'm sure you will be fine.

Billy Mayfair uses them on the PGA tour, so cant be that bad.
The AP2s are a different animal as they are smaller, forged etc. Have you tried them?

Why restrict yourself to trying one set of irons?

Taylormade, Mizuno and Callaway must have something in their range that's worth a demo?

I have AP1's and LOVE them, used to have king cobras oversized but AP1's are brilliant. I have the 4-PW option and must say the long irons are awesome, only thing i dont like is the PW ( very chunky and quite heavy) so maybe a option of changing that wedge.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I haven't tried them yet, but I'm booked in for a fitting session for irons tomorrow. I'm not limiting myself to the AP1's - it'll be whatever works best (within a reasonable price).

I played again today and they just feel lifeless to me, admittedly my swing has changed somewhat since i purchased them but I'm just not enjoying playing with them at present.

Thanks again.
John.

Ta,
John,

Is it definately your iron play thats letting you down mate...

I only say this because i have Ping i10's..Only just recently changed from a more forgiving Cobra S2 iron...
I was sceptical at first but im starting to settle with them now..

For the most part i hit them well...Im your typical Mid-Capper but where i loose shots is off the tee with wayward ones at times...

Yes i struggle a little with the 4 iron but i get good distance with them and even though i might be left or right of my target i know that this is me and not the clubs...Its a swing path issue with me...

Im just trying to be the voice of reason for you a little..
If you have the odd flaw in your game which i take from the lessons your getting you may have...Then will new clubs really make that much of a difference?

I would have thought the AP1's and the i15 were a similar enough club....
Is it just a change for the sake of it or are you positive that new clubs will make your handicap drop.

Just my 2 cents..But the Pings are a flaking club that are pretty forgiving.
;)

The AP1s are forged but not a one-piece "grain flow forging" like the Mizunos, making the feel off the face not as soft. But they are great to hit, if you don't mind the feel (which probably isn't a huge deal) the Titleist are a lovely looking club.

I keep on seeing more and more cavity/muscle back clubs in better players bags, I think it's the way forward what dies everyone think?

What do blades actually add to the game?

I am thoroughley dyslecsix.

I can never remember which model is the ultra-forgiving and which is the better players.
Obviously, I am a huge fan of the blade-type/muscle-back models, as they are luvverly.

Whichever the set is for normal players, I'd have some without a second thought.
