Im thinking about getting an ipad. will use for browsing at home and reading daily papers/magazines/web on the train so was going to get one with a mobile operator/contract.

All of the networks are similarly priced, except Three, they are subtantially chepar on the one off cost (£99 vs £200ish+) and proved 15gb per month whereas the others are 1-2gb.

Seems to good to be true and wondered what the Three network was like for this type of use, is it a rubbish network so cost is to just get customers?

Any information or recommendations for the best network would be great.

thanks

No, but if your getting the papers etc they'll be downloaded when you are at home. Also you can tether it to you iPhone or wifi hotspot and use that as Internet.

The 3G signal on trains is crap anyway so you'll be spending £100 extra and then the monthly charge to sit and wait for a page to load all the way home.

Iirc three piggy back o2 but are a bit worse for signal.

I know there mobile broadband dongle things are rubbish. Or at least it was at mine which they told me was in one of the best areas for signal.

My wife has the iPad 1 on 3, using pre-loaded SIM cards bought off Amazon for about £10 per 3Gigs. Seems to work fine, but as others have said, the heavy downloading is best done via Wifi.

I bought the iPad outright, and have the 10GB deal on 3. I don't think they piggyback O2 because my phone is on O2 and the signals vary a lot from one to the other.

When I was on holiday in Skegness the 3G was a bit patchy, but around Leicestershire where I live and work it's very very good.

I'd say check their claimed coverage before you sign up, but it's been good for me.

I don't need 10GB because I use wifi at home, but out and about 1GB is not quite enough from my use so far so am sticking with the bigger package so I don't need to worry about it.

I've got the original Ipad on a pay as you use plan with Orange. I started out with a pay monthly plan with O2 but then found that I rarely took it out so it was a waste of money.

Their plan costs 5.1p per Mb used and it's capped at £40 per month. I just then get an invoice from orange and they take the money by DD each time. If there hasn't been any use then I don't pay anything.

It wouldn't suit everyone but for me this plan works perfectly.
