I ordered a golf towel, some balls and a pack of tees with a buy one get one free offer in the middle of last week. The order took 8 days to arrive and was missing the free tees.

I emailed them to explain and they've told me that since i didn't sign up to their "free" gift offer then i'd have to pay £2.99 to have the "buy one get one free" tees sent out. The reason i didn't sign up to the free gift was because it was far from free... you basically had to sign up to a scheme that costs you £10/month.

I've emailed them back to tell them that it is their mistake and i don't want to take part in any "free" scheme that actually isn't "free".

Anyone else had any dealings like this with them?

I know it's only a pack of tees, but it's the principal.

I've used them recently with no problems, before I did I asked the question here and they were recommended.

Is the £10 a month thing a deal with Web Loyalty? They have recently appeared on my credit card statement taking a tenner a month from me. Not something I knowingly signed up to and has now been stopped.

Yep, that's the one. I wonder how many folk out there signed up for that thinking they were getting a freebie.... it's in the small print after you purchase your goods that you need sign up for £10 a month to be able to claim a free gift.

At no time before i pressed the pay button did it say that the "Buy one get one free" offer was in any way dependable on me signing up to pay them £10 every month! I bet there's a lot of folk out there getting scammed by this.

I've emailed them and am waiting on a reply. If i don't hear back again, i'll be contacting trading standards.

Their saying that i should have added another item to the basket to qualify for the buy one get one free. That's fair enough, but when i did add my item to the basket in the first place, it already said that it is buy one get one free and didn't at any time say that i should add another item to the basket.

Watch out for this if you order something on offer from them as it's not as clear or obvious as it should be.

If you google 'Web Loyalty' there are a lot of big companies that have stopped using them.

They are not doing anything illegal, but it is not clear what they're offering/charging.

Have to say, though, I'm surprise the Web Loyalty thing is linked to the buy one get one free offer.

I got stung with the same scam, they did refund the £10 when I objected but onlinegolf are on my never use again blacklist -not very smart to piss off your customers.

I've been using these guys recently and, aside from the "value add"/hard up-sell aspect, I've found them to be quite reasonable. The upselling rarely works on me, as I'm the sort who won't buy form door-to-door salespeople. Bought a new putter, two hybrids (2-for-£70 deal that I checked and double-checked) and a few other bits and pieces from them without issue.

The only bit that annoys me is that their free shipping takes ages (weekend orders arrive Wednesday or Thursday). I could pay extra for faster delivery, but I've been spoiled with Play's and Amazon's fast free delivery times so now I resent it when they take their time. ;)

They're not scammers or con merchants, perhaps just a little... skin-crawlingly over-enthusiastic in getting you to buy more stuff. :) They're involved with Quidco.com's cashback system, too, so for me that's win/win.

I had some annoying business with them after my sister bought me an e-voucher, they sent her an email (supposedly with a downloadable voucher) but it wasn't there.
I had to phone them more than once. I'm not so annoyed about that but I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to order an e-voucher, PLEASE order a "real" voucher that gets posted to the recipient.

Anyway, I got the hard sell of some "free" scheme after I checked out. I turned it down, as it looked well dodgy. Something about handing over your C/C details and them (not online, but a partner company) helping themselves to £10/month in return for vouchers, which I couldn't see myself using.

I looked into these schemes later that day and worked out what it is all about. I am surprised at the lack of integrity of the online/nevada company to get into bed with these type of operations. There is no way I could ever use this scheme to my advantage. It's a scam...that's the only way to describe it UNLESS you spend your life shopping online and can use the companies that are part of the scheme.

I WILL NOT BE USING ONLINE GOLF AGAIN. Sorry online, but if this is the type of thing you feel is good for your customers, you are badly mistaken.

Enormous rant completed.

Re; Quidco

"Quidco charge a £5 annual fee which is deducted from the cashback that you receive. If you don't earn at least £5 then you don't pay anything at all. There are no upfront fees and Quidco don't take any additional commission from affiliate sites (unlike the majority of other cashback sites.)" - £5 per year and you don't pay it unless you get £5 worth of cashback. It is a win/win....no problem with that.

What online have at/after checkout is a £10/month deal....that's not the same. :(

Sorry for being somewhat slow on this. What do you actually get for your £10 a month?

You get vouchers for your online shopping. What they are and how much they're worth I don't know.

No, it's not the same, but I wasn't suggesting it was? Merely mentioning that I'm happy to use OG but take care with their questionable practises in order to gain from the Quidco arrangement. It's worked for me so far.
