As my pro only sells Titleist and I can't seem to get the "best" W/S ball (Tx4) from one of the big retailers, I thought I'd look online.

I was surprised to see the deal. You can buy some left-field choice balls for good prices, but Srixons and Titleists seem to be almost as much. I never found any W/S Tx4...and wasn't impressed with the prices.

You can get balls for about £3-4 less, but the postage is £5 on some sites. One place offered free postage on 6 dozen.....??? Huh....??

In the end, I just bought a box (12) of Pro Vs off my pro.

Are these guys making any money? is it worth it, or only for weird and less popular stuff.

I would rather give my pro the business as it is hard enough for them to make a living competing against the internet and American golf etc.
Having been in business myself I am well aware of how hard it is for small businesses to make ends meet.
Use them, or loose them.

I don't agree with this type of blackmail, if Pro's want the business then its up to them to be more competitive in the market place not for the consumer to have to spend more to keep them going. I was charged £35 for a dozen Z-Stars a few weeks ago by my pro when I can get them online for £30 and we all know pro's get great discount on trade prices yet they just want as much profit as possible regardless of golfers.

I bought 3 dozen AD333's on EBay the other week for £33 inc free postage, to be thats a great deal and yes if my pro offered the same I would have bought from him but they just don't.

I've just got a good deal for the Titleist NXT Tour ball, 3 for 2 boxes. (They are leveraging the current promotion which uses a voucher in a box for 6 free balls, but it means you don't have to buy a box to get the voucher first - they do take the vouchers out of the box though!). They are also 3 quid a dozen less than most places, so with postage it was about 44 quid for 3 dozen...

I DO agree. But my pro only does Titleist. I bought a box....end of story.

My O.P. was more geared to the fact that the online retailers aren't really offering anything good. I'd always rather use my pro for the sake of even a £fiver more.

Whay pay £29.99 + £2.99 P&P when your pro does them for £33-35 anyway.

I tend to buy online in bulk at the end of a season when the new models are about to be introduced. Normally can find 3 dozen balls for £25 (PX3s last year, DX2 this year)

RGDave. If your Pro doesn't do what you want. You shop around. After all you are the consumer. It's the Pros choice not to stock a wider range of balls. (Stock holding / turnaround etc.)

However. I do tend to buy my balls from the Pro. Often they're more expensive than the big guys, but they'll always price match. Of course if they don't do what I'm after (Trispeeds for example), I'll shop around.

Our pro will do balls, clothing, shoes, at what ever price you can find the item on the web.

Thats a good pro.

I have mentioned this before that Pro's should join forces to buy in bulk at trade prices to reduce costs and pass that on.
