Just wondered what it was like, I won an annual sales award at work and am going there for a few days next month.
:whoo::whoo:

Hi Scottjd1, I went there in 2009.
What a place, I hope you're minted, the prices were astonishing!
In one shop I saw a pair of jeans for €1,000 and a crocodile skin blazer for.........................wait for it................€75,000. And when the exchange rate was €1 for £1.......shocking.
There was a lot of Russian money around & loads of huge Russian blokes with gorgeous women.
Glass of wine €15, cup of coffee €5 and small bottles of water for €5.
However, the skiing was fantastic, lots of amazing runs and a huge area to play with. We only got a local lift pass but that was more than adequate for one week.
A good tip here is to ski down to Courchevel 1350 for coffee/beer/lunch as everything was half the price it was in 1850. We tend to ski from first lift to last & usually take a packed lunch so we can save time & loads of money. Even the High Street pavement is heated so the tarts don't get the bottom of their fur coats dirty!
I felt a bit like a 2nd class citizen due to the stench of money & the constant procession of Porsche Cayenne's, X5's & Q6's, but I didn't care. The skiing was absolutely awesome.
If you're going for just the skiing, fill your boots buddy, you're sorted.
If you're going for the apres ski, use someone else's credit card!
I hope you have a great time & savour the views and the runs,
let us know how you got on,
stay safe,

Slime.

P.S. I'm off to Les Arcs next month :whoo:.

Thanks for the info Slime, as its do do with the company I shall be mostly hanging out with the relelvant people at times when we need drink/food etc lol They do pretty much pick up the tab for all the essentials so as oong as you are not tempted buy the shops then hopefully wont hurt the pocket too much (unless there is a golf chop there:clap:)

I had heard it was good but rather than all the 'other stuff' if the skiing is good I really just want to do as much as poss, havent done it for years but loved it so hoping it can get me back into it as id like to go a bit more often.

Also i hope i come back injury free for the Woburn meet.

Enjoy les Arcs mate.....

Superb skiing in Courchevel area, one of best areas in Europe without a doubt. Skied there several times but always stopped in the lower villages. Very very expensive to eat or drink whether on or off the mountain, make sure someone else is paying!!!!!!!!!! Stench of money around the place, rich Parisians, minor middle easterns royals and russian gangsters (sorry I meant businessmen), but also lots and lots of normal folks like you and me so I have never felt second class there. It can be done without spending a fortune but it takes a bit of creative thinking.

Enjoy

The russians have left - teh french police went in a couple of years back and rounded up all the russian "ladies" and put a couple fo the oligarchs on trial; as a result the russians pretty mcuh left, BUT kept the chalets and hotels that they had been buying up. As a result the resort has been a lot quieter than it used to be and the locals are complaining to the authorities that they have been losing business.
i was there the year before last and it was fine in terms of cost - you just dont eat in teh stupidly expensive places - there are lots of self servcie places on the hills and in the villages.

Resort is fantastic for skiing terrain, have been there quite a few times

Enjoy

I've been but my last visit was in 92 so can't give you any up to date info. Skiing is excellent like most of the high altitute french ski factories. My recollection was there was nothing to do other than ski and nightlife was non existant. As I say that was 20 years ago so off slope activities may have improved. Skiing top notch.

My boss flies out tomorrow for a week, and again in a few weeks time. He goes several times a winter and loves the place. He's tried several others and prefers Courchevel.
