Anybody else?

As with many of you I took today off work to watch the Ryder Cup. It was only a matter of time before it ground to a halt, and as the weather up in the North East WAS okay at the time (i.e. not chucking it down!)and it was likely the RC wasn't going to resume until mid afternoon, I ventured down to a local course (Hobson near Consett for a round).
Teeing off at 11.15 it was very windy, but I got off to a good start with 4 pars and just 1 over from the 1st 5 holes, and was hoping for my first good round since my great week in early July.

However, the rain from a drizzle became a downpour, the strong wind killed my brolly, got a right royal soaking and had to give in after the 10th (which finishes at the clubhouse) as the greens and fairways were becoming flooded and we didn't have any guys with squeedgies to clear the greens unlike Celtic Manor.

Did anyone else have similar fun today?

My wife works at a club and a society were booked in for a 36 holer. Half the field jacked it in at the 9th first time around and only a handful even thought about going out for the 2nd round. The greens were waterlogged and the course should ahve been closed and probably will be first thing tomorrow. I doubt if my course will have faired much better.

There was a society of 8 in front of me; thought they would let me through when I caught them up, but no offer. I believe single players have no rights on the course? (1st round on my own this year - just due to RC being suspended)

Course definitely should have been closed before we had to quit. Was keen on playing proper greens, as the society game on Tuesday, we were given a reduction, as was told a couple of winter greens were on; this turned out to be 17!!)

Everyone has equal rights nowadays, but I've yet to be let through whether on my own, in a 2, 3 or 4 ball by a Society! Played last Sunday and a Society had just finished teeing off, we were a 4 ball and there were 2 two balls behind us, so we let both 2 balls go before us after watching the last group of the Society take 4 strokes each to reach the corner of the dogleg first.

On the 3rd tee we all (us 4 and both the 2 balls) watched as 1 of the guys took 7 to reach the bridge in front of the ladies tee, maybe 40 yds from the yellows!

They never once offered to even let the 2 balls through, over 2 1/2 hours later we reached the 9th green and decided to play the front 9 again.

that's a good point
Societies are a necessity for almost any golf course tehse days, and arent necessarily alwasya a bad thing on any given day.

But i do think the pro/course manager shoudl tell them that the back groups MUST let people through - they have no inalienable right to stay attached to teh group in front or to set the speed of play for teh course for that day

I was going to play, but it was hooning down.

One of my pet hates. Turn up, have to hop over the course closed sign to get in the club house.

Get a beer, look out the window, couple of guys going out. Open door, course is closed, says I.

Nope, we'll just play a few holes off the yellows, it'll be fine.

Committee members, so all is ok.

I left, hopped over the course closed sign on the way out.

Hope they got frikkin soaked.
