Don't expect them to do any actual work for free,but I have never paid or charged for a quote.

You can get an estimate over the phone. To give a quote you have to attend and actually investigate the machine and thats costs time, fuel, parking.
All the chaps that I know that did no call out have either gone bust or returned to a fix fee/ call out system.

Not sure why some are finding it so hard to believe that someone will come out to look at a machine free of charge to give a quote for any repair work. They still do here and don't charge a rip off price if a repair can be done.

I know what many do in this trade, having spent 35 yrs doing it.

Anyone that said it was the belt can award themselves 1 point for the correct answer. Opened it up this morning to find a shredded belt. Seems a fairly straightforward job to replace it so that's tomorrow's job.
