Keep looking at an older Defender but even with high miles they are expensive

Anyone got any experience of these? Are they worth the money? Any problems faced ?

Thanks

Had several. Well maintained they are an excellent work-horse and easily repaired: a bad one is a nightmare. Not suited for much road use or long trips as seating is basic and sound proofing ain't up to much.

They have become a 'cult' which is increasing prices but it does mean spares are readily available and depreciation is almost none existent and it 'may' appreciate.

It is not a 'car' if you need to carry other people and stuff you'd be better off with a modern pickup with a 'crew' cab.

They new model is very expensive compared to the competition and I suspect will not hold its value - it may also lift the value of the more recent editions of the old model. If you can find the SWB with the petrol V8 you can really have a ball but be ready for frequent visits to the fuel station.:LOL:

Great fun - if agricultural (y)(y)

Many thanks for your note, confirmed somethings and taught me a few more.

Despite all its flaws want it even more, even if it is just to put the dog (I don't yet own) in the back of to take for a walk

Again thanks

P.s I'll be sure not to leave it outside kfc on the double yellows ???

An appreciating asset currently by all accounts...

If you have some basic mechanical skills self maintenance is doable... Though occasionally some big muscle is required ;):)...
Something quite delightful about old school greasing of nipples :)...

had one for a while, but with no mech skills was a bugger to keep on the road. cost me plenty getting someone else to do it.

if you have a good one and can tinker, prices are on the up.

I've a couple of mates that use them for work/ shooting /.Gamekeeping. one did one up and sold it for about 10K more than he pai for it

Dont buy a old defender unless your into off roading there possibly the most uncomfortable road car you will ever encounter, they leak and brake down alot. What about a new defender had mine a few months now and it’s excellent on and off road 94D91E13-5EA6-4640-B64E-4977C5DDF624.jpeg

It certainly looks like it can go down some pretty steep inclines!
Lol yea ive been off roading twice on all season tyres and it was great. Just fitted some off road tyres recently so looking forward to doing some more extreme off roading.91CC2D93-4CD4-4A67-9273-A7AF3F738A7A.jpeg

I can't change a plug, let alone a spark plug .... and haven't got an unlimited pot of gold so will need to buy very wisely !!!
