Im just getting into golf now and spending a bit of time on te range to try get the ball straight rather than a right angle :-(

Anyway im after a hybrid club and a pair of shoes and i was just wondering...will i be wasting my sweet time purchasing gear from sports direct?? I.E. donnay/dunlop

Cheers.

Not necessarily. My brother uses a £6 Dunlop 3 wood that he hits arrow straight 220yds which is further than he hits his driver and a hell of a lot more accurate. He also has a £6 Dunlop 60* wedge that he can use like a magic wand.

It's about finding what works for you. Remember it's down to the singer, not the song! Don't feel like you're restricted to cheap gear though, there's plenty of bargains to be had if you don't mind shopping about or buying 2nd hand.

I bought my irons from ebay 3-sw some brand called protech or something. Picked them up for 15 quid which i was chuffed about. So im happy to go 2nd hand.

Think ill have a look round some sports shops tomorrow but there doesnt seem to be many about on the high street anymore and very few of them stock golf gear

Never hit a club from SportsDirect so cannot comment specifically on them. I would, however, recommend Benross kit. You can pick up last year's hybrids for about £20 and they will last and do a good job. As for their shoes, they may be OK and do a job but will be the same as any cheap pair of shoes so do not expect them to last forever.

I have used a dunlop putter about £6-8 worth, and its rubbish, I have also used the drivers and they are poor at best, BUT, I have a very old 3 wood and 2 wedges that are very nice, I have a good feel from the wedges, and the 3 wood is strong and fills you with confedence...

If the irons are half as good as the 3wood and wedges i have, its money well spent...

Why not just buy 2 clubs and give them a test before you buy a set ???? for the sake of £12.00 you will at least know if they work for you.

Can not go wrong with benross or MD I'd you ask me! Also keep an eye on fleebay for bargains! I picked up a Cobra H rail hybrid for 20 quid the other month!
