My course is shut next Saturday for a Midlands PGA qualifier so I need to find somewhere else to play. We have been given courtesy at some local courses but they are only offering late morning or afternoon tee times so not ideal.

One of my group has invited me to play at Six Hills where he has booked a tee time whilst my old playing partners have invited me back to Stoke Rochford so I have a choice.

I like playing new courses so Six Hills is tempting but as it is a pay and play course I was looking for some info on what it is like. I have no problem with pay and play and muni courses as long as they are in a reasonable condition and I am not looking at 5 hour plus rounds. I used to like playing at Thorpe Wood bu the round timed were getting up to near 6 hours last time I played so never been back since.

Anyway, has anyone played it, any thoughts on the course and anyone played at weekends who can let me know how congested it gets.

Not the greatest to be honest but ok for a cheap round if yours is closed. Not played it for many years but unlike the name there are no hills! For me your old gaff everytime.

Thanks for that, looks like it may be decision made as Six Hills is actually going to cost me more than being signed in at my own club.

You won't be missing anything, it's a very plain layout apart from a couple of holes where the water comes into play. It's very down one fairway and back up the next.

The really disappointing thing was that I wanted to take my new playing partners for a round at Stoke but they never replied to my club's request for courtesy for a few members despite Belton extending courtesy to some of their members last year when they were shut for a Midlands youth competition.

ironically I played at Melton Mowbray today and was chatting with the blokes after and going through potential other course in the comp. Six Hills was one of them and apparently its flat and boring!

I only live 3 or 4 miles away from it but have never played it.

My impression from what I've heard is that it isn't worth going out of your way for, but I thought the guys Gibbo mentioned were saying it's now better than that and worth a trip. My head wasn't in a good place though so I may have misunderstood.
