Another Question....

Hi Guys,

Just received an email from a club I have applied to join. I have no one to second my membership as I have never been a member of a club before and applied to this one after reading other posts on here.

I have spoken to the chap who sent me the email and have been invited to go and speak with him at the club tomorrow afternoon...

This may sound like a really daft question, but what should I wear? A suit? Trousers and an open shirt? Shirt and Tie? Smart Casual? Im already a bit nervous about it!

Any help would be greatly appreciated please.

Depending on which club. If it is Prestbury, Wilmslow or Bramhall type smart casual.

What is the name of the Club please?

Basically they need you more than you need them. Have some questions regarding Comps, social side, what they have to offer; ask to play the course. Who are you seeing and what is the purpose. Explain why you chose that particular club

Remember they need to sell themselves unless they have a waiting list.

Trousers, shirt, shoes should be fine...smart enough to show you've made an effort. I guess it depends on the club though and how strict they are when it comes to dress code.

I have had a few dealings with them regarding Open comps. The peope who I spoke with were John Clark and Ruth Bradbury. They were both extremely helpful and I do not think Jacket and tie is required.

Have heard very good reports and the course is very good.

I have played against them a couple of times,very nice down to earth people.Just to many internal out of bounds for me but it is a nice course.

I would go down the jacket and tie route, would rather be over dressed than under dressed. If the shirt is slightly casual then you can always ditch the jacket and tie when you get there. My club is not snobby but prospective members always interview in jacket and tie.

Jacket and tie for me too or suit. That way they won't be smarter than you and, at a minimum, puts you on an even footing. If they say that you needn't have dressed up then just answer, "I had another meeting to attend earlier so didn't have time to change"

Was going to say exactly the same, if you feel over dressed you can always say that you had a meeting/work/interview/appointment after that required you to dress up.

Wouldn't have thought so. Well dressed does not equal snobby.
Slagging off the local municipal and the quality of its members certainly does.

Personally I don't think it matters. To be fair they probably need you more than you need them in the current economic situation. I'd go dressed as I would to play unless the dress code specifically said jacket and tie in the bar etc. A lot of these meetings these days are less informal than the old days when the proposer and seconder had to be there two (all suited and booted) and they were grilled on your suitability. Most clubs have managed to move on

Worsley is a nice club with decent members, polo shirt and troosers should be fine.
