My club is not snobby but prospective members always interview in jacket and tie.

Is this not a contradiction?

Wouldn't have thought so. Well dressed does not equal snobby.
Slagging off the local municipal and the quality of its members certainly does.

But you see it is all to do with perception, a lot of people will see the blazer brigade in a club and rightly (imo) think the clubhouse is stuffy and exclusive.
