Several guys recently have had Orka fittings recently, GB72, Fundy, Full Throttle is having one tomorrow, so I thought I would go see what they could do for me as I have been struggling a bit recently with the irons.

See Fundys more in depth thread on his fitting http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?50099-New-irons-fitting

First thing Alex (Mr Orka) did was to check out the loft and lie of my I20's Black spots and found that they were actually 1 degree flat and the lofts were 2 degrees stronger than Orka's irons,

Started warming up with my 8 iron, then moved over to the 6 iron to start measurements, Swing speed was low at mid 60's and i was averaging 147 yards with the I20s, We tried several different shaft combinations and this I think is Orka's strength, concentrating on the right shaft for you.

Eventually it was clear that 1 combo was head and shoulders above everything and that turned out to be an Orka GS5 CTI head, with a 80R UST Flatline Graphite Shaft @1 degree up (2 degrees different from the I20's.) with a V60 standard Grip

With this club I was averaging 157 yards, In fact I was carrying it further than the whole I20 shot and the swing speed had risen to mid 70's, and the ballflight was lovely (dont forget the I20's were 2 degrees stronger as well)

Alex also gave me some pointers about my swing which will pull everything straighter

So the new shineys have been ordered, and once I have had them a couple of weeks, and worked out the distances for each club, I will go back and get the Driver, Woods, Hybrids and wedges looked at.

Should have them in about a week, so its all good

A very good experience

Awesome, enjoyed reading.... That is what you call a successful fitting. Was it a big difference, like suddenly .... Oh wow this feels better, it's longer and so on? That was how my recent fitting was.

I kinda wished having seen Steve's irons that I had at least tried Orka before going Mizzy. Ah we'll, I'm happy, or I'll never be happy or something.

I have a feeling the extra yards your about to gain are really going to help.

How much do those shafts weigh? Sorry to be a geek.

Its a very good product and nice that's it British!

The shafts will weight about 70 to 75g

Robert you big kid :) :). Enjoy
Alex I think that the title of the shaft ( 80R) is a bit of a clue :)

In the cold light of day, I'm still buzzing

One degree flat compared to what though? Was it just industry standard? That might just be Ping's "standard" lie. For instance when I was fitted by Mizzy I was 3 degrees upright with Ping I'm 2 degrees upright therefore comparing a standard Ping with a standard Mizzy would also show my current bats as being one degree flat. That makes sense to me - hope you can work out what I'm saying!

Hope you enjoy your new bats though with your old man graphite shafts!!!

:ears:

Didi a quick comparison last night and the standard specs between the i20 and Cti are virtually the same - 1/2 a degree here or there in lie, a degree in loft, many are the same....

Looking forward to Fragger air-mailing a few greens once the Awesomeness arrives.......

Nice one..

Grandad..

graphite? hmmm there was me thinking graphite was only for old duffers who are past it... oh wait :)
(i20's for sale soon then, hmmmmmmmmmm ;) )

Sounds great Phil, looks like this forum will end up looking like its members are sponsored by Orka

Rob changing aswell, must be ping irons are crap if your both giving them up.

Glad to hear that it went well. Having a fitting with Alex is great and his little swing tips really help. Hopefully I will have the cash soon to head back and finish changing the rest of my bag to Orka. You wait until you try thr drivers they are awesome

I was going to take the piss about the graphite shafts but as I have just gone from X to S and down to R in one fitting I thought I would keep my mouth shut...

I did ask my fitter about the PX graphite and he said they are amassing but you do get this once in a while flyer that goes 20 years longer than anything else....

Yes Phil 80R... no one likes a smart ass....:)

Nice write up Phil

Sounds very similar to my fitting where I was hitting the test 63 club against my 32's.

Fitter pointed out I'm 1* upright from standard and had been playing clubs (32's) that were a degree or 2 flatter than standard so, in effect, my 63's are playing 2-3* more upright than my old set.

Get some pictues up when they arrive Phil

Great review chap, sounds like a high-quality service that.

No shineys for me this year, perhaps when the time comes....
