A few of you may remember I played Ardglass GC (yea, the cracking one with the cliffs for the first few holes) in an Ulster interclub competition and won away from home 3&1 (team lost 3 to 2, not bad considering) well, the home leg was today and after playing ok yesterday with two horrible holes reuining a decent card, I thought I might struggle today.
First tee shot with the driver confirmed my fears, I ballooned it and around 30 yards off line, I still managed to get a good third shot in and win the hole. The ninth hole had me a couple up and pushed an 8 iron a yard or two offline and caught the greenside bunker, I managed to hole it without even touching the sides, the funny thing was, I hit it way too hard and had it not gone stright in or hi the flag, it was racng off the green, it was a one in a million shot that luckily went in and stayed in.
Anyway, I managed to win 4 & 2 in a slightly scrappy match where bogey won two holes and halved a few also The team won 5-0 which was an excellent result which shoud see us either 1st or 2nd in our group and hopefully one more good result in the next home/away affair should see us through, Carnalea are currently at the top without knowing the result of their match against the other team in our group.
Next match is against Carnalea, just down the road from our club, a seaside parkland style course. Hopefully I have earned my place on the team with a 100% matchplay record so far and am looking forward to the practice round. Hope the weather keeps up.
