A few of you may remember I played Ardglass GC (yea, the cracking one with the cliffs for the first few holes) in an Ulster interclub competition and won away from home 3&1 (team lost 3 to 2, not bad considering) well, the home leg was today and after playing ok yesterday with two horrible holes reuining a decent card, I thought I might struggle today.
First tee shot with the driver confirmed my fears, I ballooned it and around 30 yards off line, I still managed to get a good third shot in and win the hole. The ninth hole had me a couple up and pushed an 8 iron a yard or two offline and caught the greenside bunker, I managed to hole it without even touching the sides, the funny thing was, I hit it way too hard and had it not gone stright in or hi the flag, it was racng off the green, it was a one in a million shot that luckily went in and stayed in.
Anyway, I managed to win 4 & 2 in a slightly scrappy match where bogey won two holes and halved a few also The team won 5-0 which was an excellent result which shoud see us either 1st or 2nd in our group and hopefully one more good result in the next home/away affair should see us through, Carnalea are currently at the top without knowing the result of their match against the other team in our group.
Next match is against Carnalea, just down the road from our club, a seaside parkland style course. Hopefully I have earned my place on the team with a 100% matchplay record so far and am looking forward to the practice round. Hope the weather keeps up. :D

Homer youre totally right.
I couldnt believe the bunker shot on the 9th it went straight in, no bounce or dollying around the lip. I had a slightly thin layer of sand and a 5 foot lip to get over with the green almost at eye level (flag I guess was around 25 feet), I managed to get it out almost thin but hit way too hard and It went into the hole at such a rediculous angle that it had no right to go in, it didnt even mark the lip of the hole it was absolutely perfect...had I meant it. In honesty I hit it around 10 yards too much in weight and everything went into slow motion, the ball was headed at around 1 foot up the flagstick and I thought it might hit the stick and at least slow it down.
All the other guy could manage was an expletive as he was on for a possible win being 30 feet from the hole and a putt from the fringe for birdie, I was stuck in a horrible lie in a rather akward bunker.
Ill never forget the noise it made for as long as I live and it put me 3 up heading into the back nine which was a hell of a relief as it could so easily have been 1 up instead and all to play for.
