Annual subs

Just had our renewal through. 4.5% increase taking us over £1000 (with a locker) for first time.

Pretty shocking value to be honest in central Scotland. Will be having a look about I think.

the one thing i though was crazy about Scotland is how cheap green fees are. blaregowrie was propa cheap

since the removal of guest green fees, our membership has reduced from £535 to £480, last year was £495, so two reductions. Helps retain members and we have had quite a few new members this winter, I have introduced 3 myself although one was previously a member some years ago.

we don't have a pro shop and the club runs an honesty box in the hut by the first tee, record green fees again this financial year which has helped bring the membership cost down.

the treasurer wanted to have one fee for visitors and guests, so he decided if members wanted to bring guests then the member could help subsidise their guest with the money saved from his/her annual membership. The long term idea was/is to make membership cheaper than pay and play,

1. Makes you wonder what the Pro was doing with your Green Fees
2. Don't follow this bit.

We have our AGM coming in the first week of March. A pre meeting revealed funds were only just available to pay staff. Dare they increase them? I'm sure glad I'm not making that decision.

So lightning does strike twice - Same thing happened at Baberton in Edinburgh about 15 years ago. All fixed now, some new holes built and a stunning new clubhouse.

It also happened at Largs GC about 10 years ago.

Nearly happened to me.
Just started managing a course and was told that the greenstaff were very experienced.
I was walking past one with a buggy sprayer and asked if he was putting weedkiller on a section of greens, he said yes and off he went with a cheery wave. As he passed I got a whiff of Roundup.

Cue.....Crazy new manager running and yelling after greenkeeper on buggy, fortunately some golfers saw me and stopped him.

£870 for me, which is actually one of the cheapest in the area. I'm not renewing though, I've come to the conclusion that I simply don't get value for money from Golf membership. A quick look on teetimes on any given weekend shows rounds on various courses in the area available for £15/20 without fail, and no way do I get the circa 43 rounds a year in to break even.

Nomad time for me.

I've not noticed this!!!!! I think you mean Annual Fees. The hiked up green fees they charge up there, subsidize the Annual Fees.

sorry, yes,. annual subs. only played it once and fell in love with the place. couldn't believe it was only around 700 for both courses. the secretary did joke and say "its under snow for 4 months a year so we cant charge too much".

we teed off last behind a society. the half way hut man even gave us all the spare beers the society didn't drink. i mean, how better can golf get! drove the 1st green on the Rosemount too but i dont like to talk about it

We have never had a Pro shop as the course was previously owned by GEC/GPT/Marconi. Since the closure of the company the golf course has been managed by an elected committee.

We have regular visitors who would pay a guest rate, lets say £10, the visitors rate is say £14, that's a saving of £4 each visit, by removing the guest rate it is cheaper to be a member if you play once a week. By reducing the membership fee, the members then have the option to pay part of their guests green fee without being out of pocket, (based on previous years membership fee)

Hope this explains a little more

Where you going to look at? Your place is expensive, plus a £1000 joining fee. Paid over 4 years if you wish. That's nearly double most other courses in the area. But you do have a good course in summer and excellent practice facilites.

Just a £10 increase in our subs this year - yeah!!! However

Welcome to Surrey-Hants borders...

Subs renewal - £1581.25 (inc EGU Fee) plus £50 on clubhouse card plus £40 development fund

Total £1671.25

Stirling and Dunblane are both about 700 and couple pints and Alloa is under 650. Muckhart where I used to be a member is 550 now but there is a current member on here that says its poorly run now.

Knew Glenbervie was the most expensive around Stirling but didn't think it was by quite that much

My God. 😮

Unfortunately 'my God' is unable to change this - I wish he could :( ...all he can do is to grant me acceptance and help me cope with that horrible number :) And paying monthly by direct debit it will probably be £150+ on top - so more like £1850.

But ours subs are consistent with all the equivalent members clubs in the area. I just count myself very fortunate that I can afford it (though only just) and be a member of a lovely club. And I don't consider that that makes me part of the Just About Managing brigade...;)

We've had a 3% (£35.85) increase this year raising my subs to £1,230.85, I pay £100pa on top of that for my Entrance Fee (£1,000 divided by 10 years) taking me to £1,330.85pa so I pay £110.90 per month.

On top of those costs I have one-off costs of £150 House Credit (bar) on my card, £35 Locker, Trolley Garage £90, Golf Levy £2, EGU £8.25 & WUGC £9. I also have an Admin charge of £35 so that's an additional £329.25 which has to paid in full.

So my annual outgoing costs are £1,660.01 and I'm over a 100 miles away from Surrey

If you divide the cost by the green fee do you actually play that number of rounds per year?

£1600 my side of the border including bar levy of £100, and interest paying monthly. Not too bad considering the course is very rarely closed, and we also rarely have temp greens. You should consider living in Surrey and playing in Hampshire like me Hugh.:D

It's a thought - but not one I have entertained - besides - who'd want to play at your track anyway...;)

wot you mean - loads of folks...?

Besides I'm 5mins drive from my place and 25mins (and 10miles) from yours. Think of the delta cost in mileage :)

It was a joke, as you wouldn't get past the blackballing system.:D

Nowhere near. But I value being a member of a golf club for all that that offers. And in my part of the world if I want to be a member of a half decent club - that's what we have to pay.
