In 20 years of membership across two clubs the only time the subs have not gone up was the renewal which followed a "greenkeeping accident" which killed the grass on all of the greens after spraying with weedkiller and they were reduced by circa 1/3rd
Then they went up hugely the year after that.

since the removal of guest green fees, our membership has reduced from £535 to £480, last year was £495, so two reductions. Helps retain members and we have had quite a few new members this winter, I have introduced 3 myself although one was previously a member some years ago.
we don't have a pro shop and the club runs an honesty box in the hut by the first tee, record green fees again this financial year which has helped bring the membership cost down.
the treasurer wanted to have one fee for visitors and guests, so he decided if members wanted to bring guests then the member could help subsidise their guest with the money saved from his/her annual membership. The long term idea was/is to make membership cheaper than pay and play,
Hope that was Baberton otherwise there are two clubs which have had the same disaster![]()
Are you a member there now? Played the 9 (village?) course afew weekends ago, was lovely! Was Oak Park in Surrey over 10 years ago now - they killed all 27 plus practice area - so another disaster area !
The only saving grace was Crown Golf had taken over managing the course which meant we could "relocate" for about 8 months whilst resolved.
If it had not been Crown I suspect the club may have gone to the wall as no such solution possible, probably the only good thing to come out of their management.
