Her facts come from the same stable as the veggies ' if no one ate meat all the nice cows and sheep would have a happy life' - wrong they would be dead and the land put to soya beans etc.

how many golf courses would now be brown sites, housing estates etc.
and where would all the wildlife be?

Anyone got a gun!?

The mobile she probably has, has got a battery, as has her laptop, so why blame golfers for batteries. Obviously she's an eco warrior and therefore probably bats for the other side, so therefore (in a Clarkson type deduction) she and her 'friends' probably get through a lot of batteries.

So we'll all take up motor racing then.

As for golf tourism, welllll. I'm sure that more folks fly to Ibiza to go clubbing than go golfing. Perhaps we should bannish dance music as well then.

Making condoms is also bad for the environment so we should ban those as well. We'll have a population explosion followed by an Aids epidemic, and we'll all die. Actually that would then stop global warming and everyone will be happy, except we're dead. (Wow, could have come straight out of Clarksons mouth!).

Damn extremists.

Could be an amuzing thread in a day or two.

Some of it is unfortunately true!

GM did a piece not so long ago about golfers wanting lush green fairways all year round which can only be achieved by using pesticides etc they used Hoylake as an example of a sustainable golf course (remember the yellow fairways), the R&A are pushing this quite heavily now as they realise the damage that style of golf course can do to the local environment.

Some golf courses aren't the wildlife havens people think they are good golf courses are more and more turning away from pesticides etc because of the impact they have.

Re: The whole 'Green' thing

...FFS just don't start me off.

This largely trustafarian, morally ambiguous bunch of lentil knitting, hemp knickered, hypocritical, work shy, fundamentalist, champage-swilling sadistic socialists are completely out of touch with the basics of life as it is lived by the majority of us.

As soon as the word 'green' was connected with the words 'levy' and 'tax' we were always going to be doomed as the pull of additional finances was likely going to be too strong for the politicos and thus it has proved.

Don't worry though, the freedom to own the transport required to visit a golf course will get scrubbed out way before golf as a past time does. That's something to look forward to...NOT.

Want a vision of the future under a green agenda? read 'The Caves of Steel' by Isaac Asimov or similar and weep.

Needless to say they all need putting against a wall and shooting.

Oh dear, you started me off

Pah!

Well nice to know that I am responsible for higher food prices, global warming and the destruction of the planet.

Surely most of the arguments can be made against any sport. Ban swimming because the pool has been built on a site that could be used as a forest, ban football for similar reasons and because the pitches could be used to house a family of rare newts, in fact just ban all sport and have a world full of obese children with so much pent up agression and testosterone that they will fight at the drop of a hat.

Sadly the green lobby seems now to target anything that is fun or that they do not participate in.

What's ironic about the whole green movement in this country is that it was originally sponsored by the then Thatcher Government to prove that shutting the coal mines down was due to excessive CO2 pollution and not economic or political reasons. And therefore used to promote nuclear power as the 'green' alternative.

I might be wrong, but that's how I understood it.

Another book worth reading is 'The Sceptical Environmentalist' by some Swede.

haha, I'm sorry to show humour on a topic that is obviously pretty significant for a few of you (I agree as well) but reading that article did make me chuckle. "I talked about the use of electric golf trolleys and the ridiculous burden they have on the planet" seriously whilst they may not have a positive environmental impact I think it is hilarious that whoever wrote this actually thinks electric trolleys are so detromental to the planet. When I started reading it I thoguht it was a wind up but it is clear that it is not, and it accurately demonstrates the idiocies that are being more and more commonly associated with 'green thinking.' It seems to me that they just keep trying to find new things to blaim as they don't truly understand the worlds changing state themselves and by reffering to golf i think they are really clutching at straws. And also I love some of the links they just happen to stumble upon "So when you are spending more on food at your local shops blame a golfer, because the need for additional golf courses has led to the loss paddy fields and virgin forests." where is the truth in that? Can they honestly not think of a better reason for increased prices such as the increased price of fuel resulting in transporting costs increasing meaning we the consumer pay for it. Ecologists = Killjoys.

there are some truths to the eco argument, not in this article but with the wider issue.
the problem the uber-greens have is that they are incapable of sticking to fact and presenting a rational argument and utterly incapable of listening. anyone who disagrees is instantly condemned and vilified.

The comments about pesticides may have been true some years ago-but in this modern era greenkeepers are changing the ways they maintain our courses to ensure they are "Green".

On electric trolleys i presume she is complaining about the need to recharge the batteries and not the use of the trolleys themselves.

I accept the need to do something to reduce emissions and save the planet but golf is the least of the problems.

They should definately ban football. When ever they do a piece on global warming etc on the news they tell us how many football pitches are being made in the Brazillian rainforests.

Well, I think thats what they mean??

Totally pathetic, I think you lot should be more concerned about the nails you tree hugger put in trees to keep your “protest” houses up there, its people like you ruining this country and btw global warming IS natural and not affected by man.
