I think the ban is ridiculous given its a level playing field and anyone can use one so it is not an advantage at all, if ya don't like it use one yourself. Just some guys are better at using them than others.

May be - but they are banned from next year. And whether or not we could all use one is besides the point - they were deemed to be counter to the nature of the golf swing - in much the same way that there are strict rules around golf club design, ball size, compression etc etc. as well as existing rules defining how you can putt and what is not acceptable in a putting stroke.

Yes, but it's not really golf, where a club should be swung freely, held in the hands. In my opinion anchoring should never have been allowed in the first place!

I believe the distance the balls goes for the modern day pro is the most important issue that's needs addressed in gold.

St Andrews could be holding its last open this year. With no wind its a pitch and putt for the modern pro.

Take the ball back by 20% and the long hitters still have an advantage and classic old courses are protected.

I'd imagine its easier to move The Open to October than it would be to un-invent the modern ball

That's probably true. Gary Player has been on about it for years and nothings being done. Its too late now.

Interesting to know that the scores for The Open have been decided already

Regardless of what happens the Open will always go to St Andrews every 5 or 6 years and rightly so

And why change it to Oct ?!?

I happen to agree and think that if the conditions are benign it makes St Andrews a very mediocre Open venue that is far too short and with bunkering that is redundant for the modern big hitters and so becomes much more of a short iron and putting event. I think it's perhaps only on there as the home of golf and is one of the weakest venues on the rota.
