Hi,

I am looking for an app or website that enables you to effectively put a pin on a map for all the courses you have played. And ideally to show this as a percentage of all courses nationwide and by region.

Seems like quite a simple function but can't seem to find such an app or site.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps something GolfMonthly could develop?

Google maps? You should be able to pin anything you want on a map. Not sure how to do it myself but Ive seen one someone did of football grounds they had visited.

There are some options online but no apps I'm aware of.

You could do what I did. Buy an A3 laminated map and mount it on hard board. Hang it on the wall where HID allows and buy a ball marker for each of the courses you visit then blutak them on. A dremal soon sorts out those ball markers with the spike. Much more interesting than an app :D. If they don't do a ball marker then shame on them ;)

Interesting idea... I've played about 80 courses and would have no interest what so ever.

... so therefore "I'm out".

(but if you had one to plot former girlfriends houses............)

if you tell me what you would like to log in terms of data ill make a web app, iPhone app and android app would make a nice side project for me.

Oh oh oh!
Ability to add a pin/flag to a map based on GPS location. Then add the course info. Ability to add score details for rounds played there might be a nice addition as well.

Great news. So I guess the possibilities are endless and no doubt you could crowd source a lot more input from the forums and other online and offline golfing communities. However here is my initial thinking:

Base Requirements
1. A zoomable uk map that has flags on it showing all uk golf courses in one colour
2. The ability to highlight those courses that you have played to show in a different colour
3. The data to see total number of courses you have played, what proportion or uk courses you have played and what proportion of courses you have played in each county or region

Possibilities
1. Ability to record data against each course played e.g. When last played, best score, notes, etc
2. Expand beyond UK
3. Share socially with friends or members of your club and be able to overlay friend's maps on your map and contact friends who might have played on a course you ought be looking to play
4. Organise games with friends or locals when you are looking to play a new away from home course
5. Community ratings of courses
6. Add all course details

Monetisation
1. Feature ads
2. Link golf courses to their websites and click through payments
3. Enable gol shops to be added to the maps
4. Partner with a tee bookings website
5. Sell platform to existing established golf apps, GPS device manufacturers or golf websites eg GolfMonthly or online course directories such as http://www.englishgolf-courses.co.uk/

Obviously golf courses are featured on google maps so wonder if you could exploit their mapping. And of course there are apps and websites to track where you have travelled on holidays so presume some insight could be gained from these e.g. The footprint app, http://www.ammap.com/visited_countries/ and http://www.whereivebeen.com/

Hope this is all clear but let me know your thoughts and what might be realistic.

Simon

You really have thought about that! To be fair I'd be willing to pay for an app that did the above. ^^^^

In fact I could see GM taking interest in it as well. No pressure though ;)
