quite the opposite I would think Homer, probs best placed person to actually comment!!

I have lost a few mates to drugs & alcohol related incidents, its a shame as they were top blokes beforehand and when sober/not high. didnt recognise them when visiting family back oop north.

She isnt the 1st and wont be the last!!!

The music industry is awash with drugs - both soft and hard. I know a few people with contacts in the industry and the tales of drug taking are incredible.

Does anyone remember Mrs Merton at the Brit Awards when she asked whether anyone in the audience had seen Charlie as everyone back stage was looking for him? Google it - it's quality!

Anyone read Sharon Osborne's autobiography? She used to look after a rock band (not Black Sabbath) and, to a man, they were hooked on heroin. As part of their venue requests, they'd ask for adult nappies as a heroin come down involves a runny bum......

Bono alledgedly provides goldfish bowls full of cocaine at his parties.

Stories of drugs and rock 'n' roll are ten a penny.

If you've got an addictive personality then you're in all sorts of trouble.

What I will say is, can anyone on this forum state honestly that they've successfully weened themselves off heroin??? It's hard. Very hard.

Now, some will say that she shouldn't have dabbled in the first place. That's a fair comment. But, a sad fact of live is that something like 95% of the population will dabble in drugs during their teens. What percentage will become hooked? It could be your son or daughter. Are they 'junkie scum' as has been stated???

I feel very sorry for any addict - they're running from themselves on a constant basis and they'll never escape.

It's true. It starts way before success and wealth too.
I know. I've experienced it.

I struggle to understand folk that show any sort on empathy for someone who chooses to kill themselves, all this RIP pish for junkies gets right on my tits.

What a sad, pathetic, sample of humanity you can be.

You don't have to like her music or have any sympathy for drug addicts to regret the loss of a young life, any young life. There are plenty of people, perhaps some of them forum members here, who abused alcohol or drugs while young but who managed to pull their lives back on track in later life.

She was someone's daughter and her family don't deserve the posturing of smug Daily Mail righteousness.

Also, she was no drain on NHS resources; on the contrary, she brought in quite a lot of money in music sales and tax to the country.

What about all the costs that go along with the hassle she caused continual police time etc, and just the general nuisance to society any addict causes.

"The general nuisance any addict causes"????

Put down that Daily Mail and step away from it, please. That sort of nonsense is obviously making your common sense and reason hide.

Some comments here a bit harsh to say the least, I'm sure she didnt choose to be an addict. I cant condemn her any more than say George Best. Sure it all looks stupid/needless behaviour from where we are but its a not as straightforward as that - is it?

What is 'general nuisance'? Offending the sensibilities of 'right thinking' people? If that is the case, then a range of celebs who don't take any drugs are a 'general nuisance'.

You are shifting your argument from one where she allegedly cost society in monetary terms to one where she just annoyed you. Well, that is fine. You are entitled to be annoyed, as I am with a range of celebs, but I shouldn't rejoice over their deaths as a result.

The issue is that drug addiction is a touchstone issue for the white middle class middle aged Brit. Yet getting plastered on nice £8 bottles of wine is fine.

Clearly Amy Winehouse failed to take responsibility for her situation and her death was hardly a surprise, but in philosophical terms, plenty of people do equally stupid and reckless things and cost society a lot more than she did. The fat middle aged dad who decides to reclaim his lost youth and does his achilles costs the NHS a lot of money, as does every smoker, plenty of drinkers and many who have unhealthy diets. Oh, but they pay their taxes, I hear you cry. So did Amy Winehouse, and she went to private rehab (no, no, no) not NHS.

Ok to wrap this one up, a loss of human life is sad, inevitable for all of us, but still sad all the same. As mentioned she was someones daughter, friend etc.

Some people are on a date with destiny earlier than others, a cruel fact of life and while everyone can have an opinion on this, does it really matter to us enough to have 50 posts on the subject?

Life isn't long and you will be a long time gone, as Jerry Springer said "Be Good To Yourself…and Each Other"

Before this gets wrapped up..........

I haven't heard anybody mention the "Drug dealers/pushers".

They are the ones that should be vilified, they are the scourge of Society who do not care about any persons life, just their own downright greed!

Golfmmad.

A sagacious post until the Jerry Springer quote. :D

I can't understand why anyone would feel motivated to condemn her. It is up to her what she does or did with her life. Sad that she died but she made the choices she made and that's that..

I am sure she'd be absolutely devastated to know that a load of golfers on a forum got so wound up about her passing. If only she'd known, it all could have been so different...

I wonder if the people on here slateing her for having an addiction would feel the same if it was there daughter/son or loved one that was a "junkie" ?

How would you feel if someone basiclly said your daughter deserved to die because she was a "junkie" ?

And as for addicts being a drain on police and NHS resources i doubt it comes anywhere near to the amount of police time that is wasted on a weekend in a city due to drinking and also the money that the NHS spends treating people who smoke that are told to quit but refuse.

Booze and fags are drugs also it's just your not frowned upon as much by society if you are addicted to them because the goverment will never make them illegal as it makes them way too much money.
