My Daughter, who works in theatres at the local Childrens Hospital was telling us that they had a 700g baby on the operating table and it had died - but the Doctors were able to bring it back again.

Its just incredible what they can do these days.

Over to you guys with your stories.

In 2011 I was watching the evening news. There was a piece about a lad celebrating his 18th birthday. I remember being part of the transfer team when he was moved from the Special Care Baby Unit in Middlesbrough to Leeds. I remember how seriously ill he was and how difficult the transfer was.

I must admit there was something in my eye when I watched the news, and it still brings a lump to my throat - that kid was seriously, seriously ill in 1993.

Mrs Imurg has been doing Neonates since 1985...
She's seen almost all of it and worn out several T shirts..
She gets a Christmas card from a family every year.
In 1986 this lad was born and was on the absolute limit of life.
She helped bring him back and now he's a strapping Father of 3 doing conservation work in Kenya.

In 2003 I married a ginger.

The way she has come on since then has been truly remarkable.

A few of the midwives and neonatal staff have seen it all and are never failed to be surprised how far the human spirit, the will to live and the love of a family can have on patients that are on the very cusp of life and death. Of course you have to add in the advances in medical techniques, the patience and expertise of the medical staff but it's still so heartwarming when you hear of someone surviving and thriving against the odds

In 2009 I met a guy on a Forum meet, top bloke, great golfer - but he's now a shadow of his former self!

His name....................Pieman. :p

Same for HiD , since 87 and guess will have a story or two to tell should they ever get together :) First time I went onto the Unit she was Matron at I was blown away at what they could do . When in NZ they had in a little girl who was a 24 weeker and tiny but now 11 years , although blind she's a lovely girl with two very doting parents

My son was born in June 1983 weighing 737 grams, just under 11 inches in length at 1 day short of 28 weeks.
Has some issues, thankfully turned out to be a fine young man me and his mam are very proud of.

Will never be able to thank the Doctors and Nurses in the SCBU enough.

Underwent major surgery at less than 2lb in weight, came home after 100 days weighing 4 1/2lb.

My second son was born with Downs on one knew for over a week. Then discovered he had a severe unfixable hole in the heart 1 in 25,000 apparently. Only given 12/13 years to live.
He's currently 25 years old and his latest (extra) role on telly was in Cold Feet, where he met and chatted to James Nesbitt! (Filming was last Friday). He has also had a small part in Bad Education (two episodes). He's the Karaoke King with a fantastic sense of humour. Lives and loves life.
