Just heard that the R&A are introducing a World Amateur ranking system - how cool is that?
Wonder what number I am...hmmm - top 10 million?!
Think it's a great idea though, quite cool to be able to see who the next stars are etc and people like Gary Wolstenholme who just stay in the amateur game - he was definitely worth his MBE.

I agree on both points - ranking the amateurs is long overdue and I am looking forward to featuring in the initial top ten

As for Wolstenholme, he's had such a long, successful career and given so much to the amateur game that it's amazing he wasn't recognised years ago. In my opinion it's restored a bit of honour to the honours system after some questionable recent awards....Geraint Jones anybody?

Trueblue – I've seen your suspect chipping technique and I'm not sure you'd make the top 10 million. Agree on Wolstenholme - a great ambassador for the amateur (and possibly better?) game. It's great to see someone with so much talent didn't feel the need to go hunting the dollar.

Really pleased for Wolstenholme. Wonder where he'll be in the rankings?

Anyone who can win two Amateur Champs 12 years apart and make all those Walker Cup appearances must be some player

They do this in tennis for all age groups which is a huge incentive for players though it does get competitive. My neighbour is third in world for his group and he goes all over the world playing in tournaments, though trying to be no.1 is dominating his life.

Have the rankings not been around for a while? I have taken the following passage from the scottishgolfview.com website on the 8th January and he has been keeping us up to date with the rankings for ages.

Richie Ramsay (Scotland) retains the WAGR No 1 spot for a 21st week.
Jason Palmer (England) climbs 2 places to enter the Top 20 at No 19 and Niklas Lemke (Sweden) also climbs 2 places to No 20.
Four high-ranked South African players have signed professional forms as a result of their performance in the Sunshine Tour Final Qualifying and have been deleted from the current WAGR.
As a result, Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw) moved up from No 44 to No 39. We now have three Scots in the top 50 as Paul O’Hara (Colville Park) is now at No 45, as he and three Americans, Daniel Summerhays, Kevin Chappell and Colt Knost, at 46, 47 and 48, moved up six places into the Top 50 in Week 2007/02.
Zack Miller (USA) and Jarred Texter (USA) have moved up seven places to Nos 49 and 50 respectively.
Into the lower reaches of the R&A WAGR top 100, all rising eight places, come Niall Turner (Ireland), Jacques Blaaux (South Africa), Dale Marmion (England), Jorge Campillo (Spain), two Scots, Jonathan King (Glasgow) and Scott Henry (Cardross), and two Americans, Trent Leon and Daniel Im.
