an interesting thread in more than one way!

FWIW I voted yes

I haven't been fitted for all my clubs but have been working with the guys in the Performance Centre at Urban Golf on my driver to get more distance out of it as my relative lack of length (I tend to hit it very straight) does put a bit of undue pressure on my long game

What they found out was that I was putting far too much spin on the ball which was robbing me of distance. The main reason for that was that the shaft in my driver wasn't suitable for the way I swing the club.

I really like to 'feel' the head of the driver through the back swing and especially at the top and wasn't prepared to compromise on that so it was a case of trying to find a shaft that would put less spin on the ball but still feel good.

We also changed the loft of the club by a degree and the other thing they did was to switch me into a low spinning ball - the results have been good with an extra 15-20 yards

I guess if it works for you then it's a good thing!

I can only speak from my experience and custom fitting worked for me. I could not hit a driver straight until I was properly fitted. Higher loft and a shorter shaft worked for me with little loss of distance so I am very happy with the whole principal of custom fitting

I voted yes and even though I have not been custom fitted, it must make a difference, just think about it, you hit the ball with a slice, so you get a draw weighted club, and your slice is no more, it just makes sense. Also I completely understand what MVP is saying about lie angles, it just helps your clubface set up to the ball, and therfore encourages a better stirke, again it just makes sense.

Not that i dont believe in custom fitting which i do.
You cant really say that because...

I suffered from a great slice (up until today), about 3 months ago i went in search of a draw weighted club and settled on a Cobra M-Speed LD. My slice continued up until i saw my pro on the range before my round today and told him of my slice. He set me up and said that i needed to feel that my right arm is coming over my left just before hitting the ball. Went out on the round and sliced only 1 ( Due to me lifting my head).

So all though i am a fan of custom fitting, that statement is false.

Sorry if i caused offence, it is my first post like this.

as a total novice i am following this debate with great interest and i voted yes for the following reasons;
1.like any equipment based sport we all know as we gain experience when the time comes to alter a bit of kit that is holding us back
2. confidence is a massive factor in any sport
3. everyone's swing is different

however from what i gather depending on who does the fitting the 'fit' can be totally right or totally wrong
and i tend to agree that high handicappers like myself are learning the game rather then'fine tuning'so i personally will wait till/if i get to low double figures 14ish before i consider a fit.

Absolutely wright dont let the young kid at homers AG fit you get the manager lol.
I recon mid - low twentys get custom fit, up to you tho. My pro will adjust my clubs for free if need be 6 months down the line!

I got custom fitted for my R7's last january and i came out with standard lie, an inch shorter shafts and thicker grips.

My stats from last year show that i hit 11% more greens in regulation even though i hit 5% less fairways.

That says enough for me.
