Mvp you are right it is necessary but only to the better golfer it is of no good to the average golfer, the only benifit of custom fitting is to the better player with a grooved swing, 99 out of 100 golfers can buy standard golf clubs of the shelf, ie standard lie and regular shafts, you are loosing the plot with this custom fitting stuff.

Oh well they say dont knock it till youve tried it, tried it, didnt work, so ill knock it, all i will say if you get the fitting for nothing use it,if you have to pay for it, spend your money on a lesson it will be of more use to you.

Time to put my 2 cent in again.

MVP I remember on one of your previous posts to claiming you were over 6 foot and a member of the comfy club. In the nicest possible way do you think this has something to do with your success of custom fitting? Clubs are made for Mr average and being over 6 foot you aint in that bracket.

Other people do, you have just got to accept that.

If you do fit into the Mr average height etc bracket I only believe custom fitting is worth the money if your a very good golfer. Otherwise your swing will change regularly meaning your custom fitting is useless.

going back to this.

An golfer goes into a store he has a swing speed of 70mph and he naturally hooks the bugger all day long. Hes not a pro or single figure handicap.
HE buys an X stiff driver 7.5 deg loft with a draw bias offset off the shelf, He has obviously bought the wrong club, But how is he to know if he isnt fitted!?
Obviously he is going to hit his driver half the distance and increase his bad shot left. meaning more shots out of rough, more lost balls, and more longer iron shots-harder to control distance, and get the ball landing soft and general consistency.

A golfer who hooks it and swings at 70mph walks into the shop asks to try a new driver , he gets custom fitted . He has a slow swing so the pro recommends a flexible shaft with a mid/low kick. and a 12 degree loft.
also the pro recommends a fatter grip cos his hands are big SO he will get a better purchase on the club! also less offset as he already has a draw bias swing
the wright club for him
takes it to the course. hits few more fairways, loses less balls, hits it longer meaning more 7 irons into the greens and less 3 irons... improved, accuracy consistency and ball stopping with the easier to hit mid iron..... outcome Happy/better Golfer.......because of CUSTOM FITTING!!!

If you dont Understand the concept of this post then im not surprised if you dont like custom fitting. As you obviously are set in your ways!

If custom fitting is so important why do they sell bog standard irons? Why do they not make fitting compulsory.

Because they want to make money! most manufacturers dont care if they sell unfitted stuff because they still get paid if you buy off the shelf and can drive around in there M6BMWs and CLS Mercs etc. Compulsory Custom fitting would mean more effort for occassional golfers who play twice a year and less sales
and less online sales. Thats why Ping hal an online question form but that dont mean jack as i experienced, thats only there to make it easier for Ping to sell custom fit with less off there effort. The only decent Ping online fitting is Grip Size. You must get fitted properly! I noticed in previous thread those who didnt like there fitted clubs had Pings! including me

What a plonker, you tell me any store or pro shop that has a 7.5 x stiff driver on its shelf, that kind of club is a custom fit, probably bought by some numpty that thought that it would improve his game, mvp if you have been custom fit i bet i could take you on the course with a set of standard clubs and you would play as well with them as your own custom fit.

Obviously he is going to hit his driver half the distance

he only needs a bit of advice from the pro here that thats not the club for the majority of amateurs never mind him not a custom fit session

Thats merely an example and yes ive been many shops with them clubs in, if you wann achange it a bit and make it an 9 degree stiff shaft then the same would apply.

Custom fit V`s Common bloody sense!!!

Getting bored of this post.

Well done MVP you win we are all wrong and cant play golf because we didn't spend money getting our clubs messed about with. And when i change my swing getting my clubs messed about with again, then when I move house and get a new coach change my swing will change slightly again so ill have to "custom fitted"

Off to the gym to work on my love handles, then going to have one sensible beer watching the golf/rugby then 17 messy ones.

this is a forum a forum is about discussing and debating matters and ideas, a few people seem to take it to heart a little, if no body cares or likes the post or subject why bother posting!
Custom fitting is about making the best out of what you got in some cases it helps people more than others. My argument is purely to show people who know little about it the significance of it. Ok its not going to make you tiger woods, but was never claimed to. The most important thing in golf is getting a solid technique! i never said that custom fitting is more important than that. It helps tho.

Even tennis players get custom fitted on racket head size, grip type/size, racket length, string type, size, material, tension.

Any way Ive said my piece those who dont believe , have only said'its nonsense unless your pro, where as those who do believe eg, MWJ, GASP and myself. Have come out with a better detailed arguments and ideas.

Oooh, this is getting a bit tasty again.

I would like to remind those involved that there is no need ofr name calling. Calling somebody a plonker or whatever isn't acceptable in this environment.

I think the best thing is that everybody agrees to disagree. I believe my oppinion is correct but unless the implementation of medieval torture methods such as extreme toe tickling with a feather duster is involved, those who are on the against side of this discussion will never change their minds.

Lets draw a line under it.

I voted yes and even though I have not been custom fitted, it must make a difference, just think about it, you hit the ball with a slice, so you get a draw weighted club, and your slice is no more, it just makes sense. Also I completely understand what MVP is saying about lie angles, it just helps your clubface set up to the ball, and therfore encourages a better stirke, again it just makes sense.
