I seem to have developed a problem where I can't line myself up properly, will hit a good straight shot just not at the target and then hear from my playing partner "you where aiming over there"

Any advice?

Cheers

Alignment sticks or a cheaper option is a bit of cane/bamboo or even just another golf club. Lay it on the floor pointing at the target and have your feet parallel to them if you get my drift?

Alignment sticks are essential.

So many neglect to practice alignment, I make it a point to start off a range session with an alignment check (when being serious about the session). Also helps to do an alignment check as part of a prep for a round, throw down some sticks, check all is OK then off you go :)

Do you have an alignment element in your pre-shot routine? Standing behind the ball is not enough, you need a reference point to transfer the info to your stance. Most people pick a mark, dent or plant about 6 feet in front of them along the shot line.

Try using GASP as your pre-shot routine too

You need more than just alignment sticks to really establish what is, rather than what your brain has got used to.

Often you will have developed offset issues eg clubface closed and closed stance/open shoulders.

You can diy, or diwithamate, but having had it highlighted as an issue a single lesson is the obvious solution.
