Just been reading a few articles about the young boy and it’s such an awful situation

First thing that isn’t great is the protesters outside - bouncy castles etc not a great look and then looking to storm the hospital- just isn’t great at all

But the main thing is the poor lad himself and the parents

It must be an awful situation to be in - they just want their little boy to be with them and it must be heartbreaking for them but as hard as it is when a good number of medical experts are saying that it’s not good for him to be get on life support and his quality isn’t going to be good then it’s got to be at a stage where life should be let to run it’s course - I know it’s got to be hard to let go

It doesn’t help the parents with offers to keep him alive from abroad

I wondered if a thread on this might appear, I just didn’t have the balls to start it myself.
I feel nothing but heartfelt sympathies for the parents, but unfortunately feel it’s time to let nature take its course, and if that means him sliding away to peace so be it.
I know, very thankfully, I have never lost a child Andy can never understand who at it really feels like, but there has to be a quality of life of some sorts being a possibility and I just don’t see there being any for him.

I totally disagree with those protesting at the hospital and staff, they are only trying to do their best for him and everyone patient there.

I just hope peace can be found by all parties.

The protesters are scumbags and should be ashamed of their behaviour.

Just hope Alfie is free from pain and gets peace.

Don't know what the rights and wrongs are of the whole horrid situation. I just pray that as a parent I'm never in the same situation. Dreadfully sad.

As awful for the parents as this is, they seem to be letting their own morals dictate how they are letting their son suffer through what is only a vague semblance of a life. The protestors are the scum of the earth.

I am very sorry for the parents and, of course, their child.I find myself wondering if it's this age of 24 hour news and social media that brings a very unhelpful range of influences to the parents. If you are getting messages of hope from sources in Italy or wherever who wouldn't be tempted to want to give them a try. At the same time, I am sure that the medical team must be giving the advice in which they have total confidence and that it would be best to listen to them.
The crowd outside are another matter. Self indulgent uninformed jumping on bandwagons comes to mind.

agree with this it’s a very sad story when any child is ill.

My daughters friend was late for her sons Kemo because of the protesters , they even held up the ambulances going in and out.(not emergency ones they use a different entrance)

She was stopped by the police and had to prove she had an appointment.
Think the police should have been tougher on these people.

There is no 'right thing to do' imo.

Doctors are making such life/death decisions very frequently (all the time?)! And doubling, trebling, quadrupling or whatever the resources won't prevent such horrendously tragic cases happening either - they'll just get/be more complicated!

That has to be wrong doesn't it. When it affects the treatment of other innocent kids and having to produce evidence of why you are there. The police need to be able to nip this kind of bandwagon protest in the bud and move the protesters on or at least to a less prominent position

Very good article .
Sums it up very well.
Theres never any winners once lawyers get involved, and this seems to have prolonged the agony for the parents.

Very sad when any child is ill.

I read in the Metro this morning, that his Dad is trying to sue the Dr’s at Alder Hey for conspriricy to murder! I can’t imagine the pain they are going through, but I don’t think the parents are getting the best advice, and it appears to be religious groups taking advantage of them.

A very sad case all round, some of the stuff from the supporters has been disgraceful, and not helped the situation IMO.

An awful case, wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Parents are getting awful advice
Social Media mob culture has hijacked the case.

I see one picture of the protestors outside and they have a bouncy castle errected, what the actual ****.

Sad to hear about the young lad, and it's awful for the parents but as a parent who's child has been in Alder Hey the way some people have treated the hospital is a disgrace. The work they do is tremendous and you have to remember the hospital has to face these life and death decisions on a daily basis. It's not just the parents who feel it when the children pass away, the staff do too. You wouldn't do the job if you didn't care.

There was an interesting in Saturdays Guardian, which basically said that American pro life evangelical Christians were the driving force as regards the social media fight and approach taken, including claiming “there would be riots on Britain’s streets if Alfie didn’t get what they wanted”
