Airport problems -especially Manchester Airport

I think that’s a massive part of the problem, you get a link to fill them in but it won’t let you. Missis T has just found that Spain has said under 12’s don’t need a QR entry code. That was released 2 hrs ago.???
 
Reading the updates on Machester Evening News this morning. Few quotes and Tweets from people there this morning. Generally, people are saying if you get there in plenty of time, you'll be fine. Staff are handling it well.

Couple of people even saying they sailed through in minimal time!

I'm flying out Saturday morning and apparently I can drop my luggage off tomorrow. Definitely gonna do that!
 
Jet2 at Leeds have now introduced an evening before Twilight Zone drop-off facility. Useful.

Pity about the airport. Not enough seating. Dreadful food outlets. Disgusting toilets (even when customers haven't been in). 500 yard walk outdoors from/to the plane stand.
And now the council has turned down plans to upgrade or rebuild.
 
1 he and 18 mins to get from
Mansfield to Manchester. ? hardly saw a car, never followed one car. Jet 2 queues were long but we flew through when they opened a load of self service bag tag lanes.
No probs whatsoever but the queues were long behind us.
 
Bradley going through X-ray with a “‘pop pit” gun in his hand luggage could come under airport problems. Looked real on the X-ray. ?
 
Not sure why there are so many queues at airports when there is a cost of living crisis. How are so many people affording holidays when they can’t afford to eat or heat their homes?
I need to be careful or I might become a conspiracy theorist ??‍♂️

When I had Covid over Xmas I spent all day on the net. Holidays had just opened up. The costs were astronomical. Around 6th Jan I had an email from jet 2 re the holiday we are now on. It had dropped from just below 3K to £1116 for four of us. So I will have some of that. Last prices I saw was just below 2K before they were sold out. Cheap holidays are out there sometimes It’s just being in the right place.

Because the true effect hasn't really bitten yet. The energy bills, water rates, fuel cost, council tax, extra national insurance etc etc will only really be felt in about a month from now

Most people around 40 years of age will have never experienced an inflationary induced recession, the last one being the bank crash around 2008. It will very quickly eat into people's disposable income and then some more.

Its seems to be a shortage of staff. Where are all the people who were laid off? Speaking to a few staff at the airport (news agent, food outlets, other airport and airline staff) all the potential employers were recruiting but there are no applicants. Why?

The people who were laid off presumably found jobs elsewhere and so don't need to go back. Equally, if they had binned you off, would you go back? If it has happened once they could drop you again.

In terms of no one applying for the jobs, perhaps the wages are not very attractive and they need to up their game? Don't underestimate how much cheap foreign labour returned to Europe during the pandemic when movement started being restricted.
 
Arrived yesterday at 5am for a 8am flight. Queue for security was snaking out into the main foyer but seemed to be moving quickly.

Get the feeling the staff had learned how to cope with the situation after a tough few days and were managing it as best they could. There were frequent announcements for people who had flights leaving soon to make themselves known to a staff member so they could be moved to the front.

We had Fast Track so we sailed through. Not sure how long it would have taken if we didn’t but I don’t think anyone would have missed their flight because of it. As said staff seem to be managing the situation well now.

Currently lying awake and desperate to get out onto the slopes!!
 
Daughter flew out of Manchester yesterday. Arrived at noon for a 16.55 flight, but annoyingly the baggage drop for her flight didn't open until 2pm. Got through that and security in just under 2 hours, said it was mega busy but the queues were moving reasonably quickly.

Manchester Airport have lost loads of staff due to Brexit, though theyve used covid as the excuse. During Covid they fired&rehired staff on lower wages.

Those EU workers who would usually do them lower paid jobs have got off.

Ah! The good old days of cheap labour dragging down living standards. Who thought we would miss it.
