Age for seniors

Thank you for all the input, genuinely. I appreciate that very few clubs offer discounts for seniors, but that's partly why we have played there for several years. The main objection was how they increased the seniors age from 60 to 67 overnight, when the normal age for a senior at the majority of golf clubs is generally around the 60 mark. While the reduced rates scenario may not apply at your club, imagine if they suddenly bumped up the qualifying age for senior competitions etc. by seven years. That would immediately exclude many who had previously qualified to play in those events, and that seems harsh to me, when the sport acknowledges that 60, even 55 at some courses, is the senior age requirement. Anyway, enough said. Thanks again for you input.

Just to be absolutely crystal clear, the age to enter Seniors Competitions at my club is 55.

There are no discounts on prices or subscriptions or green fees for Seniors at any age, except for members over 80 with more than 20 years continuous membership which is more of an honorary thing.

The "concessionary rate" idea for older people was commonly state pension age.

This used to be 60 for women and 65 for men.
Around this time some places gave concessionary rates at 60 for both men and women.

Pension age for women was increased to 65 - and this became a common age for concessionary rates - eg entrance to places of interest and for round of golf at some municipals.

Increasing the age for concessionary rate to 67 to coincide with state pension age? If this was their intention, then the timing could be considered to be in error.
If you turned 66 this last week, then you can claim state pension. This means some pensioners can not get the concessionary rate at the golf club in question.

I will be 66 later this year, but I will not be state pensionable age until 66 yrs 6 months.
So this time next year, I will be state pension age, under 67, but not eligible for this concessionary rate.

In 2028, the state pension age becomes 67 years.
I think the golf club has "gone too early" with this one.

There will be further increases in future years to take state pension age to 68 years.

We're a members club. I don't think we do senior discounts on green fees, and we stopped having membership discounts for seniors some time ago.

As an aside, my wife and I have half price tickets at the Old Vic this Wednesday, and the seniors cut off is 60. Which is a very pleasant surprise. I was so moved that I shared the data with our children. who were thrilled for us. ..

That’s similar to one of the benefits at my new place that I wasn’t even aware of until I received my welcome pack. I don’t get a discount or special rates but If I have to deploy anywhere for 3months+, the club will place my membership payments on hold at no additional charge. All I have to do is provide the dates I’ll be out of the country for and they’ll put a hold on payments and restart them the date I get back.

Wasn’t even a consideration for me I wanna to pay regardless but thought it was a nice touch when it came in the welcome pack with the diary and bag tag

Our Senior Section allows players aged 55 and over. They take a £10 supplement for the 'extra' membership.
The club only has a reduction of £60 on fees from the age of 80 and above, and that is only applicable if you bring both parents along to countersign.........(the first bit is true though.)

The difference between someone deployed and the off shore workers is the Military don’t get 6 months off upon return.

Don’t get why anyone with any one with a particular job should get any discounts compared to any one else. If anyone should it should be those on minimum wage.
