Evening all,
First post here so hello and thanks for all the past advice that I've read and benefited from forum members.
I'm struggling with a bit of a dilemma and wondered if I could canvas opinion as to the best way forward. My handicap is currently 14 but I'm scoring significantly better at present due to losing my job a couple of months ago and thus having lots of free time for focused practice, particularly on the short game. I shot 76 last week and really feel that I've made a big step forward in my game, so much so that I want to continue the progression and shoot par by the end of the year.
So now I'm thinking that I should look to upgrade my driver - stupid really as I hit it long and straight and can move it both ways but it's a 2nd hand Ping G5 10.5* loft, fitted with a YS6+ stiff shaft (also 2nd hand) that I've had for 3 years and whilst it performs well, I just fancy something, well, better/different/newer I suppose. I love Ping woods so definitely want to stay with the brand and I'm keen on a Rapture V2, G10/15/20 or I15. My natural shot is a draw so definitely don't want anything with a draw bias. I tend to launch it low, often with a penetrating flight but sometimes it seems to rise steeply towards the end (too much backspin and thus little roll? Although hard to tell with soggy fairways).
However, I know that I need to really get my swing stats baselined so I can figure out what I need to look for - problem is I can't find any place near Colchester that has a Trackman or Flightscope to measure my swing. I don't want to pretend to a golf place that I'm in the market for a new club (as redundancy limits the budget a lot!) but I am happy to pay a specialist place for a proper session. Any suggestions or recommendations? I can also travel further afield if necessary but would obviously prefer as local as possible.
Is getting my swing measured the best/only sensibleway forward (obviously would be nice to have the stats to hand anyway) or given that I can hit a long, workable ball with my current off-the-shelf G5 could I get away with just buying a 2nd hand V2, I15 or G-series? I have a G10 4-wood with Voodoo stiff shaft which works well.
All advice/help much appreciated, particular with places for proper swing analysis. Also, if anyone has a V2 with stiff BB shaft for sale...!
