Admittedly ive never used one, but doesn't this type of equipment take quite a few elements out of the game?

Actually given that (some) users of Tomcat seem to lose their common sense and blindly follow what they are told without a great deal of thinking makes me think that the comparison is more valid than at first obvious - good call @vkurup

Apparently a ridiculous 300,000 car crashes have been caused by GPS. And, according to a survey commissioned by Brit tabloid rag The Mirror, 1.5 million drivers have swerved through traffic when following their sat-nav’s instructions a little too closely!!! Here is another set of stories..

Same with the golf GPS.

The free App I stated using had our 12th at 90 yards when its 156 ish. Doesnt mean I tried a SW.

I updated the GPS app, now I hve one that is fairly accurate......

I use a Garmin G6 and it is an amazing piece of kit.

Yesterday, played a social game on a different course and forgot to take my GPS. To complicate things, some of the holes did not seem to have their 150y markers in place. My playing partners kindly gave me the yardage. However I realised that I just could not read my yardages - my guess was about 20-40 yds off the official one depending on contours. I am sure that before I got the G6, my readings were not off by that much.

Similarly, thnx to the Tomtom, thesedays no one seems to know how to get A to B without switching on the irritating woman.

I have the TomTom voice set to "Shaun from Ireland", he's great and sounds like Father Ted, I'm half expecting him to shout "Feckin' Eejit" when I miss a turning.

Just seen garmin G3 on offer at £88 (and the other thread about it!) which seems very cheap..........may go for that instead of the watch type

if i was a golfer who could hit my clubs with consistency id find this a very handy tool. However if i was a high handicapper with an inconsistent ball strike its just a waste of time, this isnt going to make you a good golfer if you can only hit straight 25% of the time.

Probably why i dont have one!

I'm looking at getting a gps next week for my birthady - I'm thinking probably a watch type but which brand?

Garmin S1 seem good value and no subscription fees, so is probably the favouite... but which brand performs best?

I bought the S2 recently and I have to say I love it and I am getting addicted to GPS.
It is well designed, easy to use, looks ok (when on the golf course, You will look a plonker when wearing a suit) and doesn't get in the way of my swing etc...

Really good investment and very happy with it so far.

Got the Garmin G6 last week and have played 3 new courses since. My scratch scores have been 76(+6), 76(+6) and 78(+7)... without it, probably wouldve been a lot worse. Being able to drag the pin about on the screen gives you an almost exact yardage, giving you a lot of confidence to attack the flag. Lower scores meaning a happier golfer . Now why did i leave it for so long to buy one?...

I'm a big fan of GPS and love my Sky Caddy SGX. Big help on away courses but really comes into its own on my normal course from 120 yards and in. I can move the flag to a pretty accurate representation of the position on the green and it recalculates the distance plus the reading to the front and back. Makes using the scoring clubs a little more accurate and the decision process simpler

If I forget my GPS or battery dies, I just keep an eye out for the 200 marker and pace it as I wlak to my ball, usually within 10 yards, and at my level thats good enough for me, and doesnt waste any time looking for other marker, If I pass the 150 marker count from that etc etc etc
