acceptable shorts

Simply because its attitudes like yours that keep youngsters from progressing within golf clubs.

Funny that... In my experience its the 'youngsters' that are the 'peacocks' where I play... And its bloody good to see them not only looking the part but WANTING to look the part...

Its when they're no longer 'youngsters' the 'problems' begin...

Really beginning to not understand this nations headlong rush into slovenliness...

And I hate having my sweaty scrotum sticking to my right leg!

Shorts are a God send, you enjoy your bettyswollocks!

Spot on that man, although i only tent to wear shorts when the game is haklf solid.

Looking for balls while playing army golf is not good... i get bitten to feck.

Cargo shorts aren't allowed at my club. End of. Those is the rules and if you don't want to conform don't join

The rules are on the website http://www.royalascotgolfclub.co.uk/visitors-and-societies/dress-code.html so it isn't as though you don't know. Personally I don't like playing in shorts but have no issues with my partners doing so although 95% of the male members can't carry the look off and make me laugh to myself when I see them dressed like that.

Homer, your club needs to move on, do any members really wear white socks?

As for shorts, I've no issues if clubs insist on tailored shorts however who decides what is tailored and what is not? I wear shorts regularly and generally always ensure they have no side pockets and only hip and back pockets but I would say they are not tailored but could easily be taken as such.

Ooooo, right in the heart!

I'm wearing it at present with my fishnets and high heels on. And I'm going commando!

Get that vision out your head Martin!

FFS I'm going to vomit and I'm going for dinner shortly too.

On the flip side it's 98 deg in my patio, tomorrow is memorial day in the US and I'll be golfing in cargo shorts and wearing a cap in the clubhouse and no one will say a thing, oh and no midges ;)

Got to love the US man

So no requlations on skirts - for either sex.

And can someone explain how you tell the difference between 'tailored' shorts and any other kind? My thoughts are that every item of clothing is actually 'tailored'.

I had always thought that tailored shorts was a term used to differentiate between sewn cotton/chino shorts and football/rugby/swim/surf shorts. Looked on Wikipedia and tailored shorts are shorts that are a shorter version of regular trousers so that fits with what I thought. Cargo shorts are a shorter version of cargo trousers and so are classed as tailored shorts. Still, alot of clubs will not class them as such.

It's rules gone mad with shorts as far as I'm concerned.

Clubs are happy to let someone in the clubhouse wearing a pair of chino shorts with ironed with creases front and back whilst wearing white socks and a pair of deck shoes looking like someone from Miami vice but would happily turn away someone wearing the most modern of flat fronted golf shorts and smart casual shoes and either no or trainer style socks.

It's mental

my "idea" of taylored shorts are shorts that are not sportswear (rugby.swiming.football.etc) but are shorts that are simular in style to trousers, that are deemed allowed for golfing.

whats funny is a course i played today will not allow its pros or marshalls to wear shorts, its black trousers with white tee shirts, or white/beige trousers with black tee only!

the marshall was mighty jealous when 4 grown men rocked up to the 10th tee all wearing shorts.

must add all wear covered by golf brands, (ashworth, nike & ping)

Oh please, not while I'm eating.

Wear what you want. I myself never wear shorts. My legs burn to easily and I walk like John Wayne for the next week.

I think the problem with golf and dress codes is. Unlike most sports that have a set outfit, ie football, cricket, tennis etc. Golfers wear more or less normal out door clothing and fashions change faster than peoples views.
