I played our course last night (Oulton Hall Leeds) and was dreadful, maybe hit a good shot once every six strokes. Putting was dreadful eight 3 putts over 14 holes and not a single 1 putt.

I didn't get disheartened, I slowed down my swing, concentrated on little things my pro has tauught me and carried on saying to myself it will fall into place eventually......surely!!!

on the 15th par 5 driver, 280 lovely draw then hybrid that just carried to the green. 2 putt birdie! Pars on the last 3 holes so finished well

Why is it things can go so badly then so well within literally 2 minutes?

This game drives me crazy!!!!

I dont know what it was, usually i love my putter and stand over a putt with confidence but last night i could have been using a garden shovel and had more feel. My distance was off reading the greens terribly then in an instant it all changed.

I was rushing to make tee time and wondwered if that may be the cause, I still feel taking 14 holes to settle down is a bit much!

I TRY keep the wrists fairly straight and putt with my shoulders.

Lots of slicing which is not normal for me, I am just so chuffed that I closed well otherwise I would have lost a whole nights sleep thinking about it!

My regular playing pal plays off 5/6 and he is a good influence on me and pulls me up when he sees me doing something I know I shouldn't be doing without filling my head full of new stuff to think about

My irons are fat shaft and I have never been fitted, I dont suppose you have any experience as to whether they play more like a stiff shaft as my irons consitently fade usually well controlled but?

Sorry, a bit off the topic of conversation but you sound like you know your stuff?

Cheers

If your irons are fading, they could be too stiff for you but looking at the rest of your bag, I would think it's normally the swing and/or grip.
Have you tried any other irons/shafts?
