A Very Expensive White Rattle

lol ethan... just say it as you see it yeah.

there is nothing wrong with the club, i think the main thing is for the last year ive used the burner which is pretty light headed, the r11 for obvious reasons is heavier headed and its that which is taking the time to get used to,

my mate bought one and after 1 round of golf the same happened not sure if he took it back yet also in my r11 i heard a rattle took the grip off and found a little peice of plastic inside the shaft

Took it back to AG and they were very good,
walked out the door within 3 minutes with a brand spanking new one

Just got to make some adjustments and all systems go tomorrow

A Happy Fragger

Tried the R11 again tonight and I really don't like it. End of and definitely not entering the equation again. Tried the superfast burner. Warning. On some shots it made a horrid noise on impact that was so loud it made my ears ring. Think of the old Nike Sumo and teble that sound. It wasn't on every shot and even did it on ones near the middle (I rarely trouble any sweetspot) so I presume it was something to do with the crappy balls.

Glad Fragger got the club replaced but can't help thinking it'll need to be working overtime on the weekly duel with Imurg tomorrow

on the vector i was getting a 265 carry with about 30 yards run out, compared with my 09 burner that was 245+25 yards, so all in about 25/30 yards up.

Oh dear.

Am I the only one reading this who thinks that the various c/f machines are rigged so that whichever new bat you have in your hands, surprisingly, gives you 30 yards more than your present bat?

265 yard carry - that's massive! :D

Aw, my initial thought was " either I'm bigger than I think or these machines are rigged " I was even more shocked when 2 hit 275 carry with s 40 yard roll. I guess all their stats are pefect heat no wind rock hard fairways . If it helps my top rpm was 2600, seeing speed of 113, launch snake of 10, ball speed just over 160 mph

I've only ever had one c/f - the Wilson day so perhaps I'm ill-equipped to comment but at my c/f I had a swing speed of approx 90mph and my 6 iron went about 155/160 yards. That, to me, was very accurate.

I despair of these outlets/machines that churn out such spurious results. Who, in their right mind, isn;t going to purchase a new club that gives them an extra 30 yards? To me, it's a sales gimmick.

It's like the suit salesman in Burton telling you that the £300 suit you're trying on fits you like a glove when, in fact, it looks like a bin liner! :)

I totally agree. Couldn't get on the launch monitor tonight at the TM day which was outside in proper test conditions but the guy left me alone with the clubs I wanted and I got a fair idea of how they compared to mine without any technology.

Well I agree totally, if someone offered you a different flavour durex to gain an inch you'd try it and thus is no different. I also went on feel too, and on the sim the r11 did feel more solid but then topflight balls will do that.

I've used the launch monitors at AG and DG when getting fitted for irons and they've always seemed accurate for me. That said, I'd never rely on those alone when buying new clubs.
I certainly haven't seen a 30 yd increase on my drives with the R11. It's longer than my R5 by a few yards when it works, but not 30. Funnily enough, when I tried the R11 on the range, I was booming it straight down the middle. Since I've bought it, it's been like a dog. Out of the toe, heel, snap hooks. I tried the new burner at the same time. Thought it was awful. Way too light, sounded cheap and the closed clubface was horrible.
I do think the R11 is a bit of a gimmick if I'm being honest. The adjustable sole plate technology is a con. It doesn't actually open or close the clubface, it just encourages you to grip the club in either a closed or open position. As someone who places their grip with the clubhead off the ground, that is never going to have any affect for me.
I saw Hank Haney said on twitter today that he would expect an adjustable driver to knock 3 shots off your round. Not so sure myself.

I gained 30 yards by adjusting the soleplate and moving the weights about from the nuetral settings giving me 235 carry and 260 total into the wind and using range balls on Trackman at Taylor Made.
Dont think they cranked the settings up either as Paul McGinley was using as well,so it can be done. :)

Any joy?

Sounds like something has come off inside, I have taken out the shaft, weights and sole plate, but nothing falls out.

Methinks a trip back to AG to seek a replacement is in order :-(

Make sure you get a new one and not just a 'repaired' one... that's probably a small swing weight loose and if they just remove it it'll knock at least 50yrds off your drives and they'll mostly slice! ;) hehe

For that kind of money I'd INSIST on a new one.

Whenever I am trying out new drivers, or any other club, on the monitors in AG?DG etc, I always take my own current club along to do a comparison. At least that way if they have messed with the calibration, you will hit your own driver 30 yards further too!
