A bitter pill!

I played 11 holes this morning and just managed to beat the rain with the first spits starting as I came down the 17th.

A poor opening drive followed by an absolute peach of a hybrid had me short of the first in two, a superb pitch allowed a tap in par. That pitch and putt set the tone for the rest of the round and regulation pars followed at 2,3, and 4. I cut in at 12 where another blocked drive had me pitching and putting again to save par from 30 yards. A straight forward par at 13 followed by another up and down at 14 to save par yet again after a hooked drive.

A par at 15 where I missed from 4 feet across the slope for birdie. Onto the 16th which is a bit of a beast of a par 3. I crashed a three wood short of the green into a stiffening wind where I yet again managed to get up and down, pitching stiff again to tap in for another par, my 9th in a row.

17 was another boring regulation par.

Onto the 18th a shortish par 3 across a gully with a burn. The wind was off my right shoulder and fairly strong, certainly a one club wind if playing into it. I selected an 8 iron and aimed on the right green side bunker allowing for the wind.

I nailed the 8 iron perfectly, if there is such a thing as hitting it too well I did! The ball bored straight through the wind staying exactly where I aimed it. I though I was in the bunker however on reaching the green I saw that I was just short of the bunker on the fringe.

I pulled out my lob wedge needing a pitch and putt for my 11th par in a row. Feeling confident due to a good day with the scoring clubs did I not go and blooming well knife the dam thing right through the green!!!!! Arrrrrrrrgggghhh!

To rub salt into the wound I then pitched back to about 10 inches and holed out for a bogie. It was a bitter pill!

Course was in decent condition considering the amount of rain and I was glad of a hit and some fresh air.

I'm now playing dolls and prams while watching Peppa Pig with my 2 year old daughter. What a fantastic day. Playing golf and daddy all in a day. Champion.

This reminds me of the recent post where low hcp players have no room for error. Youve thinned a chip and hit hooks etc. Theres the proof that it is not a game of perfect to shoot around par.

Well played - short game rules!

PS - does your daughter say that you have a bigger tummy than Peppa Pigs dad? Mine does! LOL

Haha, not yet!

Marty, your right, I hit 3 very poor drives and blocked a 4 iron, knifed a pitch and finished +1. Always take the positives!
