A back 9 carcrash, Why o why o why.......

He'd done so well holding it together for 18 with Smiffy

You can say that again Martin.
You can only manage it for two holes
;)

Only if I've brought my A game with me. Usually a gibbering wreck walking off the 1st tee :D ;)

I know you're all mates but joking aside if I got drawn with someone like smiffy I don't think I'd bother playing, life's too short to spend 4 hours with somebody I know is trying to wind me up, that's not why I play golf.

That wouldn't bother me, he couldn't possibly wind me up any more than I wind up myself. In fact, having someone else do it might disract me into playing better :D

Another thing, if you know your gross score, and you know your h'cap, how do you not know your points? 2 over is either 5 or 6 under your h'cap so it doesn't take a genius to work out you had 23 or 24 points.

I knew I was only +2, but I chose not to add the points just for the reason That I didn't want to know, yes ideally if id looked and gone 3 x 7 is 21, 2 x 1 is 2, that's 23 points but I had chosen not to as I hadn't tracked my points mentally for the front 9 so was hoping the same method was going to stick with me for the back 9, obviously I knew I'd killed 20+ but had NO fixed number to mess my head up

I don't really see how points matter... +2 is +2, just 2 birdies away from shooting level par... screw the points! :)

Not meant to sound horrible but I don't understand the fixation for points... 3 birdies for sub-par! :D

Your right, I suppose the fixation within points stems from most of our comps being stableford, so points is a way of working out how I would fare in our comps. Like you Im becoming more focused on the final number on the card. What's gutting is a 25 foot lagged put on 5th, to which I dropped another & told myself put through only to sink the next one which would have been a birdie making the front only +1, but hey that's golf, what could have been

Sorry mate but you a miles off the mark. I know he gives it out big time on here (and takes it) but everytime I've had the pleasure he's been nothing short of a perfect gent even when he hasn't played well. No tantrums or excuses and he's always genuinely pleased to see others do well (ok through gritted teeth but even so...). He's never resorted to any underhand tactics and we've have some real close fought matches and always had a handshake and a beer after.

I havn't had the pleasure of playing a forum event yet, but hope to some day sooner rather than later. If you read Smiffy's postings he is the first person to welcome people here, to compliment them on a milestone etc and if you read the comic postings from him it's easy to tell that it's all very much tongue in cheek. I think you know you've been properly welcomed when he calls you a "knob" - I'm still waiting by the way Smiffy!!

You'll have me filling up in a minute you knob

As Martin points out above (thanks Homer) you couldn't be further from the truth.
I'd never "knowingly" wind anyone up on a golf course. Sure a bit of banter flies around, that's part of the reason I play the game. But deliberately wind someone up? Not in my repertoire I'm sorry to say.

;)

19 points on the back 9 is a car crash , dont make me laugh. Most peeps on here would take 19 + 19 any day of the week. A car crash is 6 points not 19 :D

Well that's fair enough but not having met him I've no way of determining that from the tone of a lot of his posts.

Let me re-phrase then and say if I was drawn with some like the persona Smiffy appears to give out here I'd etc etc...

Because I have been, in the past, and it's really not much fun.

Smiffy, my apologies, with my history of having posts mis-interpreted on other forums I should have given it a little more thought before commenting.
