6th ever round non-counting

I don't think this is covered in other threads. I entered my initial cards to get a handicap - 4 nine hole and one 18 hole. I was given my WHS handicap. Today I put in my 1st score after getting my handicap and it is showing as non-counting, even though it was a good round, better than my handicap (net 67).

I don't have 8 scores to average, so it can't be to do with that. Why is it "non-counting"?

The system updates overnight. It should show as a counting round tomorrow.

Yes, it did update. Knocked 7.2 off my handicap in one go. Life just got harder!

In case you are not aware it can take 16+ rounds to get to a representative handicap. This is how it works

OK. More useful info. A further question: the rules state that a score diff has to be doubled when a nine hole score is submitted. My first ever entry was 9 holes in 51 strokes. Par is 35. The score differential shows as 14. Should this not be doubled to show 28? That's how the rule appears to read. Two other 9 holers were dealt with in the same way.

A 9 hole score (after initial handicap is awarded) is scaled up according to a proprietary WHS algorithm. The scale up is based on the Handicap Index at the time, so this can’t be / isn’t done before a Handicap Index is gained.

2 nine holers are only added together for the initial handicap.

Thanks for all the useful info. It's made me realise I need to become more familiar with the rules in general. I've found, after just a year of playing, that generally players around here have little knowledge of them and are quite often wrong.

Final point: I've belonged to forums on various subjects over the years: this one has been immediately friendly and helpful with no sarcastic comments such as RTFM! Thank you to those who replied so clearly and promptly
